1884 Wyoming Township, Kent County, Michigan State Census shows John Twist as 38 years old, Lamencha is 38, Hermanus is 17, Dena is 15, William is 12, Gertrude is nine, Frederick is six and Garrett is three. All were born in the Netherlands. John and William work in the plaster mill. The family has only been in Michigan one month (no date is given at the top of the page for when this census was actually taken). All but Fred and Garett can read and write.

On 21 Jun 1866 Jan married Lammechje Steen (744) , daughter of Willem Geerts Steen (965) (10 Jan 1810-) & Robberdina Klazes Heeroma (422) (30 Oct 1812-), at Emmen, Drenthe.4 Born on 18 Dec 1845 at Smilde, Drenthe.4 Lammechje died at Grand Rapids, Kent County, MI, on 10 Mar 1926. Buried in Washington Park Memorial Gardens.

Record number 360 book 12 page 218 Kent County Death Records states that Laantje Tweist died in Grand Rapids of chronic myocarditis on 10 March 1926. She was 80 y 2m 20 d old, a widow, who was born in the Netherlands. Her parents were F. William Steen and Dena Heersma, who were both born in the Netherlands.
