On 30 Jul 1846 when Pieternella was 19, she married Krijn Nightingale (672) , son of Cornelis Nagtegaal (30 May 1798-21 May 1864) & Cornelia Hamelink (594) (9 Sep 1800-bef May 1864), in Zaamslag, Zeeland.⁴ Born on 1 Jan 1825 in Zaamslag, Zeeland.⁴ Krijn died in James City County, Virginia, on 13 Jan 1899; he was 74. Occupation: Farmer.

In 1854, Krijn Nagtegaal, his wife, and three chidren left Zaamslag for America. Note that nightingale is the Engish translation of the Dutch word nachtegaal.
