Desmit --- Wilhelmina (Minnie Hamilink) DeSmit, aged 95, passed away Friday, May 9, 1986, at Springbrook Manor. She is survived by her children, Robert and Hope Joyce, and Lorraine Joyce Tubbs, all of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren, Carol Burgess Leys of Kentwood, Roberta Joyce Schirado of Rockford, David E. Joyce of Worchester, MA; five great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Isabelle Hamilink, Aileen Joyce Hills, Eleanore Joyce Potchen, and Helen Joyce Zant, all of Grand Rapids.
Mrs. DeSmit was preceded in death by her husbands Harold Edward Joyce in 1920 and Cornelius J. DeSmit in 1962. Funeral services will be held Monday morning a 11 a.m. at the Van't Hof Chapel, with Rev. Bruce Bode of Fountain Street Church officiating. Interment in Washington Park Memorial Gardens. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Born on 18 Nov 1889 in Michigan. Harold Edward died in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI, on 5 Apr 1920; he was 30. Buried in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Grand Rapids.

Kent County Marriage Records list Harold and Wilhelmina’s marriage. Both were 22 and were born in and reside in Grand Rapids. He is a shoemaker and she a saleslady. His parents are Edward Joyce and Cora Monroe and hers John Hamelink and Dena Twiest. John C. Loucks, J. P. married them in Grand Rapids. Witnesses were Madlyn Joyce and Harvey Stafford, both of Grand Rapids.

A reception for the wedding (which was held Monday, July 1, 1912 at high noon, was held on Tuesday, July 2, 1912 at eight o'clock at 1467 Kalamazoo Avenue in Grand Rapids. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Joyce hosted the reception. (Marriage annoucement)

Obituary Grand Rapids Press April 6, 1920 - Harold E. Joyce, aged 30 years, died Monday night at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Joyce, 201 Lagrave Ave., S.E. He is survived by the widow and two children, the parents and six sisters. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrews cathedral Thursday, 9 o'clock high mass. Burial in old St. Andrews cemetary.

Record number 658 book 11 page 24 Kent County Death Records states that Harold died of mitral insufficiency in Grand Rapids on 5 April 1920. He was 30y 5m 2d old. He was married and a mechanic. His parents were Edward Joyce and Carrie Monroe, both of whom were born in Michigan.

They were married by N. Boer, minister, and witnesses were Loretta Hamelink and John De Smit.

DeSmit --- Cornelius J. DeSmit, aged 64, of 804 Caulfield Ave. SW, passsed away Wednesday evening in St. Mary’s Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Minnie; one daughter, Mrs. Loraine Joyce Brugess of Grand Rapids; one son, Robert Gene Joyce of Cedar Springs; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother John, and one sister, Miss Jennie DeSmit both of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Joldersma Funeral Home, Rev. Earl Collins of Greenville officiating. Interment Washington Park Memorial Gardens. Mr. DeSmit reposes at the Chapel where relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 7 to 9 and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Kent County Death Records indicate John died 18 May 1969 of emphasema and artereosclotic heart disease. He resided at 808 Caulfield SW, Grand Rapids, was a carpenter, never married, and was born 1 October 1891 in Kent County. His parents were Dena Twiest and John Hamelink. Robert S. Tubbs was the informant. He was buried in Washingon Park Memorial Gardens on 20 May 1969 from the Hollebeek - Oele Funeral Home. #117224

He resided at 3969 Pettis in Ada, Michigan. He was married and a contractual carpenter. His social security number was 368-10-2109A. His parents were John Hamelink and Dena Twiest. Informant was Jane Breidenfield of 2180 Spaulding, Grand Rapids. He was buried at Graceland Memorial Gardens on 29 October 1979 from the O’brien Gerst Funeral Home. #157761
