In 1146 Matilda married King Alfonso I of Portugal (1965) , son of Henri of Burgundy Conde de Portugal (1516) (ca 1066-1 Nov 1112) & Theresa of Castile & León (2529) (ca 1070-1 Nov 1130). Born on 25 Jul 1100 in Guimaraes, Portugal. Alfonso I died in Coimbra, Portugal, on 6 Dec 1185; he was 85. Buried in Coimbra.

Alfonso I Henriques, the Conqueror, Duke of Portugal (1128-1139), rejected the overlordship of the King of Léon, and asssumed the title of King of Portugal around 1139, thereby becoming the first king of Portugal. To protect himself, he became a vassal of the Pope and paid an annual atribute. The Pope recognized him as a king about 1179. In 1147 he conquered Lisbon with a crusading fleet from northern Europe.

In 1151 Umberto III first married Faidiva de Toulouse (1994) , daughter of Comte Alphonso I Jourdain de Toulouse (1544) (1102-ca ) & Faydiva d’ Uzes. Faidiva died ca 1154.

ca 1155 Umberto III second married Gertrude of Lorraine Countess of Flanders (2113) , daughter of Count Thierry of Flanders (1629) (ca 1100-17 Jan 1168) & Sibylle d’ Anjou (2356) (ca 1112/1116-ca 1165). Gertrude died in 1173. They were divorced bef 1162.

In 1164 Umberto III third married Klementia von Zähringen (2545) , daughter of Duke Konrad von Zähringen (-8 Jan 1152) & Clementia de Namur (2047) (ca 1110-28 Dec 1158). Klementia died bef 1167.

ca 1175 Umberto III fourth married Beatrix de Mâcon (2605) , daughter of Comte Gérard I de Mâcon & Vienne (2116) (ca 1142-15 Sep 1184) & Maurette de Salins (-1184). Beatrix died on 8 Apr 1230.
