In 1196 William I married Ela fitz William Countess of Salisbury (3153) , daughter of William fitz Patrick Earl of Salisbury (2844) (ca 1150/1158-17 Apr 1196) & Eleanor de Vitre (2693) (ca 1157/1166-1232/3). Born ca 1187 in Amesbury, Wiltshire. Ela died on 24 Aug 1261 in Lacock, Whitshire. Buried in Lacock Abbey.

Ela founded Lacock Abbey in 1229. she was a nun there in 1238, and the abbess 1240-1257.
