508. Robert Long. Born ca 1590 in England. Robert died on 9 Jan 1663 in Charlestown, MA.81

From Savage:2 Robert came in the Defence from London, 1635, aged 45, with wife, no doubt his second, Elizabeth 30, says the custom-house record but probably 33, and ten children: Michael, 20; Sarah, 18; Robert, 16; Elizabeth 12; Ann, 10; Mary, 9; Rebecca, 8; John, 6; Zechary, 4; and Joshua, 9 months. He settled in Charlestown, and was freeman 25 May 1636. He had been an innholder at Dunstable, Co. Bedford, 30 miles from London, therefore well known to Rev. Zechariah Symmes, rector in that church (in whose honor, perhaps, he called one of his sons), artillery company 1639, was a selectman, kept the inn, and died leaving a good estate. His will, made 10 July 1658, names his widow who lived to 29 May 1687, aged 84, and eleven children being, all those he brought except Robert, who had died near seven years before; beside Ruth, and Deborah. The registry of Dunstable, England which mentions the baptism of his son Zechary, 20 Oct 1630, relates also, that a Sarah was buried 12 Dec 1631, so she was not his daughter.

On 3 Oct 1614 Robert first married Sarah Taylor, daughter of John Taylor (-Mar 1623/4) & Margaret Wilmote (-Apr 1616), in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Born ca 1595 in England. Sarah was baptized in St Albans, Hertfordshire, on 29 May 1595. Sarah died on 12 Dec 1631 in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England.
