954. Capt. John Carter. Born ca 1617. John died on 14 Sep 1692 in Woburn, MA.35 Buried in First Burial Ground of Woburn.149 “Here lyes ye body of Captain John Carter, aged about 76 years, deceased ye 14th o September, 1692”.

John, in Charlestown 1640, was among the early settlers of Woburn, freeman 1644.

Epitaph: “Memento Mori-Fugit Hora.”

From Sewall’s History of Woburn:34
    “John Carter, usually distinguished in Woburn Town Book, as ‘Captain John,’ or ‘the Captain’ was an early ihnhabitant of Woburn, having been a subscriber to the ‘Town Orders’ in 1640.”

John first married Elizabeth [Carter]. Born ca 1613. Elizabeth died on 6 May 1691 in Woburn, MA.35 Buried in First Burial Ground of Woburn.149 “Here lyes ye body of Elizabeth Carter, wife of Captain John Carter, aged 78 years. Died ye 6 of May, 1691”.

956. Hannah Carter. Born ca 1620. Hannah died on 20 Sep 1657 in Norwich, CT.

On 1 Mar 1642 Hannah first married William Green in Charlestown, MA. William died on 7 Jan 1654 in Woburn, MA.35

It is often stated that William was born 16 Oct 1591 at Great Welbraham, Cambridgeshire, son of Edward (d. Oct 1648 at Great Welbraham) and Elizabeth Green. It is not clear what the connection is that connects William of Woburn with Edward and Elizabeth Green.

William was of Charlestown in 1640 and was a subscriber that year to “town orders” for Woburn, and among its earliest inhabitants. He was made freeman 1644.34
