Thomas Hobart of Hingham placed himself as an apprentice cooper with John Nash of Boston for five years beginning 15 Jun 1770. John agreed to teach him the trade and provide him with sufficient meat, drink, lodging, washing, and apparel, while Thomas agreed not to ‘Haunt taverns or alehouses.’88

Jacob, freeman 1665 in Weymouth. His father gave him 20 acres of land noth of the commons in Weymouth a month before his marriage to Abigail. Jacob fought in King Philip’s War in the Naragansett Campaign in 1675, and was stationed on 24 Jun 1676 at Punckapaugee, an Indian village about ten miles southwest of Weymouth. He was quartermaster of the Hingham and Weymouth militia 13 Oct 1680, a member of the hours-mounted troop, and promoted to Lieutenant Jun 1689, later referred to as Capt. Nash.88

Jacob and Abigail lived on the Old Plymouth Road (which ran from Boston to Plymouth) at the fork in Weymouth where one branch went through Hingham and Scituate while the other went through Abington. He owned saw mills and grist mills in both Weymouth and Abington. He was contracted by the town to build a pound and in 1682, a new town meeting house. He received the old pound and meeting house as part of his compensation. Jacob was selectman several years from 1677 through 1704, and representative four years from 1684 through 1691. 1783. Joseph Nash. Joseph died in 1697 in Boston, MA.7 Occupation: mariner.88

Joseph of Weymouth. Deane says he had one son Joseph, born 8 Jun 1674, and probably died young, since he removed to Boston, there had another Joseph, born 1678, and had est. at Scituate in 1670, but Deane was probably in error since the gravestone for the son Joseph died 23 May 1732 at 58 years old.2

"Joseph Nash ... had a house and lands in Scituate, at Greenfield lane, 1670, which he purchased of Walter Hatch. He removed to Boston before 1678. His son Joseph was born in 1678, in Boston."6

Joseph and Elizabeth probably moved to Boston after they purchased land there in 1675 from his father. They were living in Boston by 1679. Joseph purchased 300 acres in Harrisiket, ME, in 1683, and sold it in 1687.88

ca 1673 Joseph first married Elizabeth Holbrook (7661) , daughter of Capt. John Holbrook (5401) (ca 1617-23 Nov 1699) & Elizabeth Stream (2139) (ca 1624-25 Jun 1688).87 Born ca 1654.

Richard H. Benson88 argues that Joseph’s wife Grace was probably Grace Stoddard, daughter of Anthony and Barbara (Clap) (Weld) Stoddard. But Anthony’s will makes no mention of Grace at all. It was written by his son Solomon Stoddard on 18 Mar 1686/7 two days after Anthony’s death, signed at that time, but the legal acknowledgements were not taken until some years later.4

Their children include:

Abigail was possibly the daughter of James and Alice.88

1787. Mary Nash. Born ca 1645 in Weymouth, MA. Mary died on 27 Aug 1723 in Braintree, MA.

Gilbert Nash concluded that Mary was a daughter of James and Alice since (1) her husband Moses witnessed a deed of James Nash the day before his wedding, (2) she transferred her church membership from Weymouth to Braintree in May 1686, and (3) the only Nash family in Weymouth was that of James and Alice.88

On 23 May 1666 Mary married Moses Belcher, son of Gregory Belcher (30 Mar 1606-25 Nov 1674) & Catherine [Belcher] (-20 Jul 1680), in Braintree, MA.88 Born ca 1635. Moses died on 5 Jul 1691 in Braintree, MA.88
