2395. Capt. Daniel Witherell. Born on 29 Nov 1630 in Maidstone, Kent, Eng.207 Daniel died on 14 Apr 1719; he was 88.207

Daniel was town clerk, moderator, justice, judge of the county court and judge of probate.207
He died at sea, Barbados.

On 4 Aug 1659 when Daniel was 28, he married Grace Brewster (6538) , daughter of Elder Jonathan Brewster (2964) (12 Aug 1593-7 Aug 1659) & Lucretia Oldham (1816) (ca Jan 1600-4 Mar 1678/9), in New London, CT.135 Born on 1 Nov 1639 in Duxbury, MA.154 Grace died in New London, CT, on 22 Apr 1684; she was 44.154

Between her two daughters named Mary, Grace had “4 Sons Sucsesu [torn] borne and Dyed nameles Imediately after their Birth.”207

Thomas came on the Hercules with his family.

2397. Mary Witherell. Born on 18 Mar 1635. Mary died in Scituate, MA, on 12 Dec 1710; she was 75.116

On 20 Nov 1656 when Mary was 21, she married Thomas Oldham (6529) , son of Thomas Oldham (1813) (ca 1590-) & Elizabeth Rhodes (-Sep 1635), in Scituate, MA.85,3 Born ca Aug 1624 in Derby, Derbyshire. Thomas was baptized in All Saint’s Parish, Derby, on 23 Aug 1623. Thomas died on 7 Mar 1711/2 in Scituate, MA.116

Thomas came on the Elizabeth and Ann in 1635 with his brother. He was a member of the Duxbury Company in Aug 1643 with Captain Miles Standish, constable 1691.

“Thomas Oldham was a householder in Scituate 1650. His house was probably near King’s landing.”6

On 9 Nov 1675 Theophilus married Lydia Parker (7891) , daughter of William Parker (-ca 1684) & Mary Turner (2198) (ca 1635-), in Scituate, MA.85 Born on 9 May 1653 in Scituate, MA.3 Lydia died in Scituate, MA, on 7 Sep 1719; she was 66.

2399. Elizabeth Witherell. Born ca 1637/1641. Elizabeth died in Jan 1661 in Scituate, MA.

On 22 Dec 1657 Elizabeth married John Bryant in Scituate, MA.85 John died on 20 Nov 1684 in Scituate, MA.116 Occupation: carpenter.

“John Bryant, house carpenter, was a freeman in Scituate 1639. His farm was on the second Herring brook, ten rods east of the mill, and ancient orchard now [1831] marks the place.” On one Sunday morning, John Bryant entered the meetinghouse late. The Reverend William Witherle, after prayers, addressed him before the congregation saying: ‘Neighbor Bryant, it is to your reproach that you have disturbed the worship by entering late, living as you do, within a mile of this place and especially so, while here is Goody Barstow, who has milked seven cows, made a cheese, and walked five miles to the House of God in good season.’6

John was presented at court 2 Mar 1642 for ‘drinking tobacco upon the highway.’ He was a member of Scituate’s Military Company in 1643, and admitted a freeman 15 Jan 1645. He served as a deputy to the general Court in 1657, 1677, and 1678; as a surveyer of highways in 1673, and was deacon of the Second Church of Scituate in 1669.

John of Scituate took an oath of fidelity on 15 Jan 1645 [Plym. Col. Rec., 8:183]. He was propounded a freeman on 7 June 1653 and admitted on June 6, 1654 [Plym. Col. Rec., 3:31, 3:48]. He served as a deputy to the general Court in 1657, 1677 and 1678 [Plym. Col. Rec., 3:115, 5:231, 5:256]. He served as a surveyor of highways for Scituate in 1673 [Plym. Col. Rec., 5:115], as selectman in 1677 and 1678 [Plym. Col. Rec., 5:230, 5:257]. He was a deacon of Scituate's Second Church in 1669.

On 30 Dec 1668 when Sarah was 24, she married Israel Hobart (5630) , son of Rev. Peter Hobart (14963) (ca 1604-20 Jan 1679) & Rebecca Ibrook (1543) (ca 1612-Dec 1645), in Hingham, MA.33 Born on 29 Jun 1642 in Hingham, MA.33 Israel died in Scituate, MA, on 14 Apr 1731; he was 88.33 Occupation: shipbuilder.

Israel “removed to Scit. soon after 1676, when, on Apr. 20th of that yr. his house in Hing. was burned by the Indians.”33

“Israel Hobart, shipwright, son of Rev. Peter Hobart of Hingham, (born 1642, died 1731, aged eighty-nine), came into Scituate 1676. His house at Hingham had been burnt by the Indians in the spring of that year. He settled here on the North river, at the well known place, since called Hobart’s landing. His house stood near the ship-yard: it is remembered by some of our oldest inhabitants, as a spacious mansion, adorned with two carved cherubs over the door.”6
