2506. John Barker. Born on 4 May 1678 in Barnstable, MA.8 John died in Lebanon, CT, on 1 Feb 1745; he was 66.120 Occupation: husbandman.

John was a husbandman, living in Marshfield, Mass. he bought land in Lebanon, Ct. 1726-29-35 but whether he moved there records do not state.120

In 1702 John first married Hannah Eames (25073) , daughter of Jonathan Eames (12836) (ca 1655-31 May 1724) & Hannah Truant (ca 1662-).120 Born on 23 Apr 1684 in Marshfield, MA.20 Hannah died in Marshfield, MA, on 30 Jan 1714; she was 29.120

William Ford (1232) (ca 1634-7 Feb 1721/2) & Sarah Dingley (1120) (ca 1639-7 May 1727), in Marshfield, MA.20 “John Barker and Bethia ffoord both of Marshfield were married January the 5: 1714: by Isaac Winslow”. Born on 3 Feb 1680 in Marshfield, MA. Bethiah died in Barnstable, MA, on 6 Dec 1770; she was 90.120

On 20 Nov 1700 when Desire was 20, she married Capt. Samuel Turner (7897) , son of Nathaniel Turner (2200) (ca 1638/9-31 Jan 1715) & Mehitable Rigby (ca 1643-22 Mar 1680), in Scituate, MA.85 Born on 25 Feb 1671 in Scituate, MA.116 Samuel died in Scituate, MA, on 3 Nov 1759; he was 88.116 Buried in First Parish Cem., Scituate Harbor.

Samuel inherited the Turner farm from his father.6

2509. Anne Barker. Born on 1 Nov 1683 in Barnstable, MA.8 Anne died ca 1730.

On 11 Mar 1714 when Anne was 30, she married Robert Thompson in First Parish Church, Scituate.85,116 Born say 1680.

“Robert Thompson was in Scituate 1712. His house was on the lane which leads north-west from Hobart’s landing gate. Mr. Cushing Briggs now [1831] owns the place.”6

Robert and Anna lived until after 1721 in the house purchased by James Briggs in 1747 on the lane (now Cross St.) near Newal’s Gate.7

2510. Capt. Samuel Williams Barker. Born on 23 Apr 1686 in Marshfield, MA.20 Samuel Williams died in Scituate, MA, on 6 Aug 1754; he was 68.116 Buried in Union Street Cemetery, Scituate Harbor.

From the Barker Genealogy:120
    "Samuel Williams at the age of eight inherited the Barker homestead at Scituate, Mass. This house was built by John Williams, father in law of Robert and John Barker, as early as 1634 and was for a time used as a garrison-house, as appears from its massive inner walls of brick pierced with loopholes. The place remained in the Barker family for six or seven generations, the house being in a good state of preservation, though the interior has been modernized. It stands upon high ground with an extensive view of the harbor and sea, about 1920 it became the Hatherly Inn."

On 25 Dec 1706 when Samuel Williams was 20, he married Hannah Cushing (12022) , daughter of Rev. Jeremiah Cushing (3939) (3 Jul 1654-22 Mar 170[5/]6) & Hannah Loring (6141) (9 Aug 1664-30 May 1710), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 26 Mar 1687 in Scituate, MA.116

Briggs7 says Hannah was the daughter of Rev. Nehemiah Cushing.

2511. Barnabas Barker. Born ca 1688 in Marshfield, MA.120 Barnabas died in 1763.120 Occupation: farmer.120

Barnabas’ “house at Beach woods near Johnson’s swamp was burnt 1739, and the town voted to exempt him from taxes that year. ... Barnabas was an active man in the Revolutionary war. He resided near Halifax hill, and was succeeded in his residence by Ignatius Otis.”6

Barnabas was a prosperous farmer.120

On 13 Apr 1719 Barnabas first married Hannah Turner (19587) , daughter of Thomas Turner Esq. (7879) (Dec 1670-1721) & Hannah Jenkins (26353) (21 Jul 1679-), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 15 Jun 1697 in Scituate, MA.116 Hannah died ca 1736.

Briggs7 says Barnabas married Mary Neal, not Mary Green, probably a sister of Josheph Neal.

On 6 Jan 1713/4 Mary married Lieut. Ensign Otis (25216) , son of Capt. Stephen Otis (13735) (1661-26 Aug 1733) & Hannah Ensign (13010) (ca 1667-1 May 1729), in Scituate, MA.85 Born on 29 Jan 1691 in Scituate, MA.116 Ensign died in Nov 1774 in Scituate, MA.116 Occupation: tanner.

Ensign inherited the Ensign property; house and lands, with the tannery established by his father. He was a Representative to the General Court 1751-1753 from Scituate.7
