On 26 Feb 1663 Edward married Sarah Faunce (10844) , daughter of John Faunce (ca 1607-29 Nov 1653) & Patience Morton (3376) (ca 1615-16 Aug 1691), in Plymouth, MA.3 Born ca 1645 in Plymouth, MA.24 Sarah died on 27 Jun 1695 in Scituate, MA.26 “My Sister Sarah the Wif of John Buck of Sittuat deceased on the 27^th day of June 1695” recorded by Elder Faunce.

3488. John Doty. Born on 14 Mar 1639 in Plymouth, MA.39 John died in Plymouth, MA, on 8 May 1701; he was 62.26 Occupation: farmer.

John “was the only son of his father who settled in Plymouth. He received a share of the patrimonial estate; beside, he was granted by the town, January 8, 1665, three acres of meadow at Turkey swamp; January 31, 1668, thirty acres at Island pond; in 1694 was given a piece of the ‘gurnet,’ a headland on the coast near Plymouth; and again in 1701 a valuable lot of ground. His mother signed off to him all of her right and title to her late husband’s land in Plymouth. His name appears on the court records in several matters. In July, 1699, John Dunham complained that he beat him in the highway. He had the pugnacity of his combative father. In 1676 he and Jacob Cooke had a dispute in court over some marshland. In 1681 he entered suit against Nathan Southworth for breach of contract. He was a juryman in 1675-6-9, and 1680-3-4. In 1671 he was highway surveyor, and again in 1675, and in 1680 was constable. His will was executed April 15, 1701, and probated in June that year. His descendants still reside in Plymouth, among whom are preserved heirlooms and traditions of the family.”39

In 1667 John first married Elizabeth Cooke (3687) , daughter of Jacob Cooke (1034) (ca 1618-Dec 1675) & Damaris Hopkins (1507) (ca 1628-bet Oct 1666 and Nov 1668), in Plymouth, MA.39 Born on 18 Jan 1648/9 in Plymouth, MA.3 Elizabeth died in Plymouth, MA, on 21 Nov 1692; she was 44.26

On 22 Nov 1694 when John was 55, he second married Sarah Jones (15734) , daughter of Joseph Jones (5798) (ca 1628-18 Jul 1714) & Patience Little (8334) (ca 1637-25 Oct 1723), in Plymouth, MA.24 Born on 12 Sep 1671 in Hingham, MA.33 At the age of 58, Sarah was baptized in Marshfield, MA, on 24 May 1730.121 Sarah died aft 10 Jul 1752.

3489. Thomas Doty. Born ca 1642 in Plymouth, MA.24 Thomas died on 4/5 Dec 1678 in Plymouth, MA.24

Thomas’ first wife was born as Mary Churchill, and his second wife died as Mary Churchill.24

ca 1674 Thomas first married Mary Churchill, daughter of John Churchill (-1 Jan 1663) & Hannah Pontus, in Plymouth, MA.24 Born on 1 Aug 1654 in Plymouth, MA.3 Mary died ca 1678.

Mary confessed to the Court 17 Jan 1671 that she had become pregnant in July or Aug 1671 by Thomas Dotey who shortly afterwards left the colony. She was finded 6£ on 5 Jun 1672 which indicates her child (Martha) had been born. On 30 Oct 1672 Mary sued Thomas for having begotten her with child, and she was awarded all of his property. Thomas returned to Plymouth by 29 Oct 1673.24

Samuel and Jane had 12 children: Samuel, Sarah, Isaac, Edward, James, Johnathan, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Joseph, Daniel, Margaret, and Nathaniel.24

On 13 Nov 1678 Samuel married Jane Harmon in Piscataway, NJ.24 Born ca 1660.24

3491. Desire Doty. Born in 1645/46 in Plymouth, MA.24 Desire died on 22 Jan 1731 in Marshfield, MA.24

On 4 Oct 1675, Desire was awarded 20£ on behalf of her husband, William Sherman Jr, ‘whoe fell distracted in the service of the country...being by reason of great charges and necessities in great straightes.’24

On 25 Dec 1667 Desire first married William Sherman (2069) , son of William Sherman (579) (ca 1610-Oct 1679) & Prudence Hill, in Marshfield, MA.20 “William Sherman and Desire Doety [worn] y^e 25 of december 1667”. Born ca 1640/1642 in Marshfield, MA. William died in Nov 1680. Buried on 17 Nov 1680 in Marshfield, MA.21

William “served in King Phillilps war, in 1676, and sustained injuries, for which in 1678, his family received 20 pounds from the Colony. During the war (with ohters) he was made a prisoner by the Indians, and was compelled by them to witness their curil treatement of some of the prisoners in consequence of which as the record says, ‘He fell distracted.’ At one time he served as constable.”21

On 24 Nov 1681 Desire second married Israel Holmes, son of William Holmes (3 Jan 1591/2-9 Nov 1678) & Elizabeth [Holmes], in Marshfield, MA.20 Born in Scituate, MA. Israel was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 14 Apr 1661.116 Israel died on 24 Feb 1685 in Plymouth, MA.24

On 24 Feb 1685, Israel Holmes and Joseph Truant ‘were cast away saleing into Plimouth harbor & were drowned...& buried at Plimouth.’2

On 13 Jan 1675 Elizabeth first married John Rowse (6751) , son of John Rowse (-16 Dec 1684) & Annis Pabodie (1866) (ca 1620-bef 12 Sep 1688), in Marshfield, MA.20 “John Rowse and Elizbeth Doety were maryed y^e 13 of January [1675]”. Born on 28 Sep 1643 in Marshfield, MA.20 John died in Marshfield, MA, on 3 Oct 1717; he was 74.24 Buried in Winslow Cem, Marshfield.

There seems to be no particular reason to connect Isaac Doty, son of Edward born 1648/9, with Isaac Doty of Oyster Bay. That three sons of Isaac of Oyster Bay have the same name as sons of Edward seems to be the strongest reason, and that’s hardly any evidence at all. Perhaps the Isaac of Oyster Bay is of the Doughty family of Scituate or of some unrelated family.

ca 1673 Isaac married Elizabeth England, daughter of William England & Elizabeth [England].24

ca 1674 Joseph first married Deborah Ellis (13540) , daughter of Lieut. John Ellis (-bef 23 Mar 1676/7) & Elizabeth Freeman (4644) (ca 1624-aft 24 Jun 1692).24 Born ca 1652 in Sandwich, MA.280 Deborah died on 21 Jun 1711 in Rochester, MA.277

ca 1677 Mary married Samuel Hatch (15028) , son of Walter Hatch (14250) (ca 1623-24 May 1699) & Elizabeth Holbrook (5405) (ca 1631-ca 1674).213 Born on 22 Dec 1653 in Scituate, MA.116,3 Samuel died between 13 Jun 1728 and 7 Jul 1735.
