ca 1657 Mary first married William Cory, son of John Cory (ca 1611-bef 1669) & Ann [Cory], in Portsmouth, RI. Born ca 1634 in Bristol, England. William was baptized in St James, Bristol, on 21 May 1634.302 William died on 8 Feb 1681/2 in Portsmouth, RI.301

In his will dated 4 Jan 1681/2, proved 29 Feb 1681/2, William Cory named his wife Mary, his sons John, William, Thomas, Caleb, and Roger, and daughters Mercy, Ann, Mary, and Joan.301

4211. Sarah Earle. Born ca 1647 in Portsmouth, RI. Sarah died in 1690 in Tiverton, MA (Now RI).210

Sarah was named in her father’s will as “Sarah, widow to the late deceased Thomas Cornell.”

Sarah first married Thomas Cornell (2974) , son of Thomas Cornell (1037) (-ca 1655) & Rebecca Briggs (811) (ca 1600-8 Feb 1673). Born ca Oct 1627 in Saffron-Walden, Essex. Thomas was baptized in Saffron-Walden, Essex, on 21 Oct 1627.66 Thomas died on 23 May 1673 in Portsmouth, RI.136

On 17 Mar 1655 Thomas was chosen with three others to prize land and buildings of John Wood, deceased. He had a grant of ten acres 10 Dec 1657. On 4 May 1670 he and three others were appointed to audit colonies’ accounts. His bill to Assembly for futher encouragement of a troop of horse was referred on 7 Jun 1671 to the next Assembly. At the same meeting it was ordered that Thomas Cornell be desired to be a messenger from the court to carry a letter to the Governor of Plymouth, and that he be supplied with 20 shillings in silver by the treasurer towards bearing his charge.136

On 23 May 1673 Thomas was executed for the murder of his mother. On 7 Mar 1674 ‘Ordered by the Assembly, whereas, Thomas Cornell of Portsmouth, who was lately executed for murthering his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Cornell, whereupon according to law, this court of Tryalls have made seizure of his estate. This Assembly (in consideration of the matter, and for the supply of the wife and children of the said Thomas), do see cause to release the said seizure and empowere the council of the towne of Portsmouth to take care and order that the estate of the said Thomas be soe secured and improved that just debts and other charges be first paid and discharged, and that then his wife and children be supplyed and relieved and to that end to order and appoint an executor or executors for the true performance thereof, and that this said Towne Council doe make a will according to law, divide the estate to this wife and children of the said Thomas.’136

ca 1677 Sarah second married David Lake (1635) , son of Henry Lake (500) (ca Aug 1611-21 Feb 1673) & Alice [Lake] (-ca 1650/1).210 Born ca 1646 in Dorchester, MA. David died aft 1709 in Tiverton, MA (now RI).

David was a freeman at Portsmouth 27 Feb 1669, and his ear mark was recorded 29 Mar 1669. On 22 Sep 1679 he bought land on the Taunton River (in Dighton, Somerset, and Freetown) and also at Sippican (Rochester) and Acushnet (New Bedford). In 1689 he was a proprietor at Dartmouth and a Selectman at Tiverton on 28 Jul 1694 and in 1698. On 16 Mar 1696 and in 1698 he was Town Clerk of Tiverton. On 11 Mar 1702 he was Moderator of the Tiverton Town Meeting. On 15 Jun 1709 he, then of Little Compton, deeded to Zaccheus Butts his rights in the lands in Dorchester and Stoughton, MA (inherited from his uncle Thomas).66

He was a saddler under Col. Benjamin Church in King Philip’s War.57
