Joanna was Thomas’s second wife.

ca 1638 Joanna married Rev. Thomas Shepard, son of William Shepard (ca 1570-ca 1616).5 Born on 5 Nov 1605 in Tonaster, England.330 Thomas died in Cambridge, MA, on 25 Aug 1649; he was 43.330

Thomas arrived at Boston in 1635 on the Defence with his first wife, Margaret Fowteville, and son. He succeeded Thomas Hooker as minister of Cambridge, and he and his church purchased from Mr Hooker and his church all the property which they left behind whtn Hooker’s church removed to Hartford.330

Mary Hooker Newton Wilson, of England, Boston, Farmingtion and Milford, CT.

ca 1644 Mary married Rev. Roger Newton, son of Samuel Newton, in Hartford, CT. Roger died on 7 Jun 1683 in Milford, CT.68 Education: King’s College, Cambridge, 1636.

Rober Newton was a student of Theology with Thomas Hooker, father of Mary Hooker. He was the first pastor of Farmington 1652-1657, and the second pastor of Milford, CT. He was installed there on 22 Aug 1660 and served almost 23 years.330

Roger was educated at Kings College, Cambridge, England, 1636, and entered Harvard in 1638. He studied theology in the home of Rev. Thomas Hooker in Hartford, CT, and later married his daughter.68

5458. Sarah Hooker. Born ca 1628 in Essex, England. Sarah was baptized in Chelmsford, Essex, on 9 Apr 1628.5 Sarah died in Aug 1629 in Essex, England. Buried on 26 Aug 1629 in Chelmsford, Essex.5

5459. Sarah Hooker. Born ca 1629/30 in Essex, England. Sarah was baptized in Broomfield on 21 Feb 1629/30. Sarah died on 20 Aug 1725 in Braintree, MA.330

ca 1647 Sarah married Rev. John Wilson (6209) , son of Rev. John Wilson (2376) (ca Dec 1588-7 Aug 1667) & Elizabeth Mansfield (1699) (ca 1592-ca 1658). Born ca 1624 in England.5 John was baptized in Boston, MA, on 3 Mar 164[3/]4.5 John died on 23 Aug 1691 in Medfield, MA.115 Education: Harvard 1642.

John “had the benefit of joining the church of his father 3 Mar. 1644, but was not freeman until 1647, ordained as colleague with Rev. Richard Mather at Dorchester in 1649, but contined only two years and was then setted at Medfield.”2

    John “was brought to New England by his father on the latter’s second voyage, in May, 1632. He was graduated in the first class at Harvard College, in 1642, was admitted to his father’s church in Boston on Mar. 3, 1644, and was admitted freeman may 26, 1647. After preaching several years, he became assistant to Rev. Richard Mather, at Dorchester, in 1649, and after two years’ service here, removed to Medifeld soon after the settlement of that place, and in Dec., 1651, was installed as the first minister of the new town, where he eas ordained pastor on Oct. 12, 1652, in which service he continued for forty years, until his death, besides performing the duties of physician and schoolmaster. His homestead in Medfield was situated on the site of the present Town Hall. By a contemporary he is referred to as ‘gracious and godly, a faithful and useful man, wee esteemed.’ He died Aug. 23, 1691, aged nearly 70, having on the previous Sunday ‘preached both forenoon and afternoon, ferverntly and powerfully.’
    “In his will, made three days before his decease, he mentions his wife sarh; son John (to whom he bequeathed his share of the Braintree farm); daughter Sarah, wife of Josiah Torrey, formerly wife of Paul Batt; daughter Susanna, wife of Grindall Rawson; and grandchild Thomas Weld son of his daughter Elizabeth, deceased, formerly wife of Thomas Weld. (Suffolk Co. Probate, vol. viii. fol. 58; and History of Medfield, p. 522.)”

5461. Rev. Samuel Hooker. Born ca 1633 in England. Samuel died on 6 Nov 1697 in Farmington, CT.2 Education: Harvard 1653.

Samuel entered the ministry in 1657, and preached at Plymouth, though not regularly settled there. He was invited to settle at Springfield, MA, but declined the invitation and remained at Plymouth until he removed to Farmington, CT, where he was ordained in 1661 as the successor of his brother-in-law Rev. Roger Newton. He continued as pastor at Farmington until his death in 1697. Mather wrote in his Magnolia: “Thus we have to this day among us our dead Hooker, yet living in his worthy son Samuel Hooker, and able, faithful, useful minister at Farmington, in the Colony of Connecticut.” Samuel Hooker was succeeded at Farmington by Rev. Samuel Whitman whose grandfather was Samuel’s cousin.330

Hooker, Rev. Samuel sen., Farmington. Died 5 November 1697. Invt. L1007-00-07. Taken 6 Dec 1697, by Thomas Bull, John Hart and Daniel Andrews. Invt. in Hartford, L294-00-00. Taken by Nathll Cole and Samuel Kellogg. Court record, Page 27--8-9- 13 April, 1698: Adms. to John & Nathaniel Hooker. Daniel & Sarah Hooker chose Mr. Nathaniel Stanly to be Guardian. An agreement of Legatees: Mrs. Mary Hooker the Relict, with the two daughters Mary & Sarah Hooker, accepted the personal Estate except the Library. That the Widow Mary Hooker with Nathaniel Hooker Joyntly have the improvement of all the real Estate during her life time which the sad Samuel Hooker stood possessed of at his death, excepting that on the east side of the Great River belonging to Hartford and a Division of outlands against Wethersfield in Farmington. In consideration thereof they do engage to be at the charge of what is necessary for the perfecting of Daniel Hooker in Learning. That all the Lands belonging to the Estate in HArtford, together with that Division against Wethersfield, be divided between Thomas, James and Roger Hooker. That Daniel Hooker is to have the Library and be perfected inhis Learning; also to receive L50 in money, to be paid him within one year after his Mother's decease. The Lands in Farmington, except the division against Wethersfield, to be divided between Samuel, John & Nathaniel Hooker at their Mother's decease. The L50 to be paid to Daniel Hooker, L20 to be paid by Thomas, James & Roger Hooker, and L30 to be paid by Samuel, John and Nathaniel. The Land & Homested sometime in the Improvement of William Hooker Decd should be settled upon Susannah Hooker, the only child of William Hooker deceased. at Witness whereof we have set to our Hands this 13th of April, 1698. Thomas Hooker, Samuel Hooker, John Hooker, James Hooker, Roger Hooker, Nathaniel Hooker, Mary Hooker, Daniel Hooker, Mary Hooker Junr, Sarah Hooker. Page 7-(Vol. VIII) 6 March, 1709-10: Nathaniel Stanly of Hartford, as Guardian to Daniel & Sarah Hooker, did agree to a certain Agreement, made by the Widow and Children of the late Rev. Samuel Hooker of Farmington Deceased, for a Division of sd. Estate at the time wherein it was made, which bears the date 13th April, 1698, and the sd. Nathaniel desired his declaration should be recorded. Page 98-25 November, 1712: Whereas, all the Lands within the Bounds of Farmington, with the Buildings thereon, excepting a Division against Wethersfield Bounds, should belong to Samuel, John and Nathaniel Hooker and Mary Hooker, the Relict of the abovesd. Nathaniel Hooker, and that by reason of the death of the abovesd. Nathaniel Hooker the Division not being finished, pray the Court to appoint persons to divide sd. Estate. Whereupon this Court appoint Joseph Root, John Porter son of David, and Samuel Wolcott of Farmingtin, Distributors.

On 22 Sep 1658 Samuel married Mary Willet, daughter of Capt. Thomas Willet (ca 1610-3 Aug 1674) & Mary Brown (-8 Jan 1669[/70]), in Plymouth, MA.3 Born on 10 Nov 1637 in Plymouth, MA.330 Mary died in Norwalk, CT, on 24 Jun 1712; she was 74.330
