8808. James Briggs. Born on 2 Mar 1683/4 in Scituate, MA.116 James died in 1754.7 Occupation: cordwainer.

James was born in the Russell house at ‘the green bush.’ Before 1716 he resided on the main road in the South Parish, northwest of Wilson Hill. In 1725 James purchased from his neighbor Dea. George King lands in Ashford, CT, that had one been in the possession of James’ father and his uncle Capt. John Briggs.7

On 7 May 1713 when James was 29, he first married Elizabeth Garrett (10471) , daughter of Joseph Garrett (26269) (10 Mar 1648/9-19 Jul 1714) & Ruth Buck (3156) (ca 1653-aft 26 Dec 1717), in First Parish Church, Scituate.116 Born on 14 Aug 1686 in Scituate, MA.116 Elizabeth died in Scituate, MA, on 28 Dec 1715; she was 29.116

On 4 Oct 1716 when James was 32, he second married Hannah Stowell (13075) , daughter of Samuel Stowell (4328) (8 Jul 1655-21 Sep 1695) & Rachel Gill (17151) (3 Oct 1661-5 Apr 1715), in Scituate, MA.85 Born on 9 Jul 1692 in Hingham, MA.33 Hannah died ca 1750.7

In Sep 1751 James third married Anna Smith (14611) , daughter of Joseph Smith (ca 1672/1677-13 Feb 1701/2) & Anna Hatch (5278) (6 Oct 1677-aft 27 Mar 1754).7 Born ca 1696. Anna died on 16 May 1792.7

Widow Anna and widower James Briggs both had property and grown children when their marriage was contemplated, and they entered into a prenuptutal contract which is referred to in James’ will.7

8809. John Briggs. Born in Barnstable, MA.7 John died bef 1710. Occupation: boatman.

In 1710 John was called ‘late of Scituate, deceased, boatman.’7

8810. Hannah Briggs. Born in Barnstable, MA.7 Hannah died aft 1710. unmarried 1710.
