Joseph resided at Conihassett, on his father’s farm. He was known as Sr. to distinguish him from his cousing Joseph, son of Capt. Cornelius, known as Jr.7

In Jan 1703/4 Joseph married Deborah Holbrook (19208) , daughter of John Holbrook (7658) (ca 1648-3 May 1731) & Abigail Pierce (12846) (ca 1646-29 Sep 1723), in Scituate, MA.85 Born on 22 Aug 1683 in Scituate, MA.116 Deborah died in Scituate, MA, on 12 Apr 1766; she was 82.116

10125. Mary Briggs. Born on 14 May 1682 in Conihassett, Scituate, MA.116 At the age of 1, Mary was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 17 Jun 1683.193 Mary died in Hingham, MA, on 25 Apr 1748; she was 65.33

On 29 Dec 1712 when Mary was 30, she first married Josiah Litchfield, son of Josiah Litchfield (3 Apr 1647-29 Jan 1708) & Sarah Baker (ca 1650-), in First Parish Church, Scituate.116 Born on 10 Jan 1677 in Scituate, MA.116 Josiah was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, in Aug 1679.116 Josiah died in Scituate, MA, on 7 Dec 1717; he was 40.116 Buried in Firsh Parish Cem., Scituate Harbor.

John was constable in 1734. He resided on Leavitt St., Hingham.33

Briggs7 says James had no children by either of his wives, Hannah Bailey or Margaret Stetson.

On 24 Dec 1716 when James was 29, he first married Hannah Bailey (20393) , daughter of John Bailey (ca 1650-1718) & Sarah White (8483) (ca 1646-ca 1698), in First Parish Church, Scituate.116 Born in Jan 1687/8 in Scituate, MA.116 Hannah died on 21 Feb 1717 in Scituate, MA.116 Buried in Groveland Cem., N. Scituate.

On 22 Nov 1739 when James was 52, he second married Margaret Stetson (14365) , daughter of Benjamin Stetson (5122) (16 Feb 1666/7-1739) & Grace Turner (7877) (1665-1 Mar 1731/2), in the Second Church of Scituate.116 Born on 30 Mar 1694 in Scituate, MA.116 Margaret died in Scituate, MA, on 30 Mar 1751; she was 57.116 116

10127. Capt. Benjamin Briggs. Born on 20 Jan 1695/6 in Scituate, MA.116 Occupation: cordwainer.

Benjamin was in the French and Indian War in 1756. He resided north of Stockbridge Mill Pond, in the old Briggs house.7

On 7 Dec 1719 when Benjamin was 23, he first married Leah Merritt (10493) , daughter of Henry Merritt (6323) (10 Jan 1663-ca 1732) & Deborah Buck (3164) (17 Jul 1665-), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 21 Feb 1697 in Scituate, MA.116

On 7 May 1722 John Doane, Esq., was appointed Anna’s guardian, and she resided with his family in the north precinct of Eastham, called Billingsgate, in 1727. Her first husband was John’s nephew Isaac Doane.7

Anna married first Isaac Doane, and second Benjamin Briggs.
