12820. Anthony Sprague. Born on 2 Sep 1635 in Charlestown, MA.317 At the age of <1, Anthony was baptized in Charlestown, MA, on 23 May 1636.255 Anthony died in Hingham, MA, on 3 Dec 1719; he was 84.255 Occupation: yeoman.

Anthony, of Hingham. His house, along with five others, was burned 20 Apr 1676 by the Indians in Philip’s war.2 He was selctman in 1688, 1692, and 1700, resided on paternal homestead, Hingham Center.317

On 26 Dec 1661 when Anthony was 26, he married Elizabeth Bartlett (8330) , daughter of Robert Bartlett (ca 1603-ca Oct 1676) & Mary Warren (2289) (ca 1611-27 Mar 1683), in Plymouth, MA.3 Born ca 1643 in Plymouth, MA.121 Elizabeth died on 17 Feb 1712/3 in Hingham, MA.317

12821. John Sprague. Born ca 1638 in Hingham, MA. John was baptized in Hingham, MA, in Apr 1638.5 John died on 6 Oct 1683 in Mendon, MA.

John, of Plymouth and Duxbury, councillor to Edmund Andros.2

Sprague Island was given to John by his father.39

John died at his homestead in Mendon, now in the extreme southwest corner of Milford on the road from Mendon, of 20 acres purchases form John Bartlett.317

On 13 Dec 1666 John married Elizabeth Holbrook (15008) , daughter of Capt. William Holbrook (5402) (ca 1620-3 Jul 1699) & Elizabeth Pitts (ca 1622-ca 1696), in Hingham, MA.87,33 Born ca 1649 in Weymouth, MA.

12822. Sergt. Samuel Sprague. Born ca 1640 in HIngham, MA. Samuel was baptized in Hingham, MA, on 24 May 1640.5 Samuel died ca 1709 in Marshfield, MA.

Samuel “moved from Hingham to Marshfield in 1663 and was town treasurer there in 1665. He may have gone there to live with his uncle, Anthony Eames, who setted in Marshfield as early as 1652. Sprague became a leading citizen; was highway surveyor in 1663; was deputy to the general court nearly every year between 1680 and 1704; was selectman in 1677-81-86-87-94-95-97 to 1706 and 1709-10. He held one or more public offices every year except four after he came to marshfield. He was sergeant in 1686 and afterward. In June, 1686, he was elected secretary of the general court and recorder of the court of assistants and served until the union of the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies in 1692, except during the Andros regime. He was the last secretary of the Plymouth colony. Part of his duties was to act as register of deeds and wills. He was elected to office sixty-three times. He married, 1665-66, Sarah Chillingworth and went to live on the Chillinworth estate on teh north side of the South river.”39

ca 1666 Samuel first married Sarah Chillingsworth (4898) , daughter of Thomas Chillingsworth (-bef 1 Mar 1652/3) & Joanne Hampton (1339) (ca 1612-4 Sep 1684). Born ca 1642. Sarah died in 1725.317

Sarah Chillingsworth did not marry John Dingley of Marshfield.54

ca 1673 Persis married John Doggett, son of Thomas Doggett. Born in 1639.

On 16 Dec 1667 Joanna married Caleb Church (8347) , son of Richard Church (ca 1608-27 Dec 1668) & Elizabeth Warren (2292) (ca 1616-9 Mar 1669/70), in Hingham, MA.256 Born ca 1646 in Plymouth, MA.256 Caleb died bef 26 Jun 1722 in Watertown, MA.256 Occupation: millwright.

Caleb resided in Dedham in 1762, later in Watertown, where he was admitted freeman 22 Mar 1689/90, and he was selectman 1692, 1698-1702, and representative to the General Court in 1713.

William, took conveyance by his father of the estate in Hingham on condition, was selectman several years, but finally removed to Providence.2

William “was a prominent citizen of Hingham, was selectman in 1690, and deputy to general court in 1708. Her removed to Providence in 1709, and died there.”39

On 30 Dec 1674 William first married Deborah Lane (6024) , daughter of Andrew Lane (1642) (9 May 1610-1 Mar 1675) & Triphena [Lane] (ca 1612-2 Jan 1706/7), in Hingham, MA.33 Born ca Jun 1652 in Hingham, MA.
