Lt., Albany Expedition, Feb. 1692/3; Lt., Stratfield Trainband, May 1704. Justice, 1709-11, 1714-24. Admitted to Conn. Bar as attorney, Oct. 1708.
“Born at Fairfield abt. 1645, d. there Oct. 1736. Married (1) abt. 1667, ——— Joy, dau. of Walter. Their son Joseph was remembered in will of his uncle Joseph Joy; while their dau. Abigail named a son Joy Bishop. Married (2) after 1683, Mary, widow of Ephraim Booth, dau. of Jeremiah Osborn; b. at New Haven, 29 Mar. 1653; d. at Stratfield, 28 Nov. 1726 in 73 yr. (g. s.).

“Lt. James was an original member of Stratfield Church, 1695, and his wife Mary joined by letter from Stratford, 1695. James Sr. and Mary Bennett witnessed will of Mrs. Abigail Hubbell, 11 Feb. 1705, and James Sr. (with Philip Lewis) witnessed the codicil 1O Dec. 1717; all three witnesses made oath, 5 Feb. 1717/8.
“After death of bis son James, Lt. James in 1714 confirmed gift of lands to the widow and children of his son.
“Inv. of Est. of Mrs. Rebecca Bennett, 5 Dec. 1741; adm’n granted to John Mackintosh.”
