Thomas succeeded his father at the Hobart’s Landing Shipyard when the Revolutionary War was over. He had served in that war. In 1780 he and his brother James purchased from Joseph Thomas, tanner, his homestead at Curtis or Buttonwood Hill, tannery, farm land, tools, horses, cows, and household furniture for 4500 pounds.7
