On 29 Nov 1759 when Elijah was 22, he first married Lillis Colwell, daughter of Robert Colwell (26 Jan 1706-1797) & Martha Winsor (10 Dec 1703-1797), in Glocester, RI. Born on 22 Apr 1738 in Glocester, RI.

Elijah second married Martha [Hawkins].
