23344. Joseph Clap. Born on 14 Dec 1668 in Scituate, MA.116 Joseph died ca 1747.

“Joseph had land at Black pond hill 1700, where his son Deacon Joseph settled, and Elijah, son of the latter now [1831] resides.”6

Joseph married and lived, probably, on Black Pond Hill in Scituate where he had land, where his son Deacon Joseph, and his grandson Elijah, afterwards lived.279

On 17 Jan 1694/5 when Joseph was 26, he married Abigail Allen, daughter of Dea. Joseph Allen (15 May 1650-20 Mar 1726/7) & Ruth Leeds (2 Oct 1652-), in Braintree, MA. Born on 28 Feb 1673/4 in Braintree, MA.

23345. Dea. Stephen Clap. Born on 4 Mar 1670 in Scituate, MA.116 Stephen died in Scituate, MA, on 11 Dec 1756; he was 86.279

“Stephen settled on the west of White-oak plain 1690. ... Amongst the most distinguished of Samuel Clap’s family, we may name Dea. Stephen, whose house above mentioned at White-oak plain is noe [1831] standing: It was erected before 1686, and in that year is called, in a survey of the road, ‘Samuel Clap’s new house.’ Dea. Stephen occupied it 1690. It is now owned by the fifth generation from Dea. Stephen.”6

Steven “was a Deacon of the church, and Lieutenant of the military. His house, which was built previously to 1687, was standing in 1842. In a survey of the road in 1686, it is called ‘Samuel Clap’s new house.’ It was built on White-Oak plain, and in 1831 was owned by the fifth generation from Deacon Stephen. He was one of the committee for building the meeting-house in 1706. He was aslo a Representative to the General Court in 1720.”279

On 24 Dec 1696 when Stephen was 26, he married Temperance Gorham (25741) , daughter of Lieut. Col. John Gorham (15249) (20 Feb 1651/2-11 Nov 1716) & Mary Otis (13731) (14 Mar 1654-1 Apr 1733), in Barnstable, MA. Born on 2 Aug 1678 in Barnstable, MA.8 Temperance died in Norton, MA, on 3 Dec 1768; she was 90.

On 23 Dec 1697 when Hannah was 24, she married Hezekiah Woodworth (8676) , son of Thomas Woodworth (2418) (ca 1641-3 Mar 1718/9) & Deborah Damon (6314) (25 Apr 1645-aft 13 Feb 1718/9), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 5 Feb 1670 in Scituate, MA.116 Hezekiah died in Little Compton, MA (now RI), on 25 Nov 1716; he was 46.224

23348. John Clap. Born on 31 Sep 1677 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of 1, John was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 6 Oct 1678.116 John died bef 1722.279

“John lived near the residence of the late [as of 1831] Augustus [Clap], east of the mill pond.”6

A third child of John and Hannah was a daughter who married a Mr Leonard of Norton.279

On 16 Dec 1702 when John was 25, he married Hannah Gill (11724) , daughter of Lieut. Thomas Gill (17145) (8 Mar 1648/9-3 Sep 1725) & Susanna Wilson (3724) (ca 1648-29 Dec 1725).33 Born on 23 Oct 1681 in Hingham, MA.33

Joseph was deacon of the church in the second precinct, surveyor of highways 1717, constable 1722, etc. He resided on the paternal homestead.33
