Nathaniel followed the whale fishery, and lived on Long Island, Portland Harbor, ME. He was killed in the fisheries by a whale soon after his marriage, and his widow removed to Bluehill, ME.48
On 25 Dec 1768 Nathaniel married Mary Dyer, daughter of James Dyer (12 Jan 1720/1-15 Apr 1797) & Mary Mariner (17 Jan 1726/7-31 May 1761).48 Born on 19 Nov 1750 in Falmouth, Cumberland Co., ME.48 Mary died in Blue Hill, Hancock Co., ME, on 23 Jun 1826; she was 75.48
Mary, of Cape Elizabeth, survived Nathaniel, married secondly 1 Jul 1770 John Peters.48

John was a revolutionary soldier 1776.48
On 28 May 1780 John married Phebe Parker in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland Co., ME.48
24277. Thomas Nichols Cushing. Born ca 1754. Thomas Nichols died ca May 1778 in at sea.
Thomas Nichols Cushing served as a sailor in the Revolutionary War and was lost in the ship Cumberland commanded by Capt. Collins, probably in May 1778.
