“Josiah served in the Revolutionary War as Private in Captian Elijah Cushing’s Co. of Minutemen in 1775; also as Sergeant in Capt. James Hatch’s Co. 1776; also Captain 5th (Penbroke) Co., 2nd Plymouth Co. Regt. the same year. In 1778 he raised a company in Pembroke, Duxbury and Marshfield, which was employed on guard duty in the fort at Nantasket.”48

On 26 Feb 1769 when Josiah was 27, he first married Deborah Cushing (24472) , daughter of Dea. Joseph Cushing (12111) (21 Nov 1711-2 Jan 1767) & Lydia King (14422) (26 Dec 1716-), in Scituate, MA.85 Born on 3 Jul 1752 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of <1, Deborah was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 5 Jul 1752.193

Josiah and Deborah were second cousins as their paternal grandfathers were brothers.

On 14 Aug 1774 when Josiah was 32, he second married Lydia Cushing in Scituate, MA.116

24315. Ruth Cushing. Born on 24 Apr 1747 in Pembroke, MA.125 Ruth died in Jul 1788.116 cosumption.

Hawke and Ruth were second cousins as their paternal grandfathers were brothers.

On 28 Sep 1769 when Ruth was 22, she married Hawke Cushing (24466) , son of Dea. Joseph Cushing (12111) (21 Nov 1711-2 Jan 1767) & Lydia King (14422) (26 Dec 1716-), in Pembroke, MA.116 Born on 13 Feb 1744 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of 1, Hawke was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 17 Feb 1745.193 Hawke died in Scituate, MA, on 16 Feb 1825; he was 81.116 Buried in South Parish Cem., Norwell. Occupation: carpenter.

Hawke was a carpenter and builder, and owner, with his brother Pickles, of the old Bryant Saw Mill on the Second Herring Brook, which they operated.7

Hawke was a private in the Revolutionary War.48
