Matthew resided ‘over the river.’ He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.48

On 10 Apr 1760 when Matthew was 31, he first married Elizabeth Marsh (27884) , daughter of Caleb Marsh (16209) (24 Oct 1678-4 Nov 1763) & Hannah Beal (37099) (14 Oct 1695-15 Nov 1768), in Hingham, MA.33 Born on 17 Oct 1733 in Hingham, MA.33 Elizabeth died in Hingham, MA, on 28 Dec 1792; she was 59.33

On 31 May 1795 when Matthew was 66, he second married Ruth Stodder (11934) , daughter of Benjamin Stodder (34785) (18 Nov 1708-) & Ruth Curtis (3866) (24 Feb 1711/2-), in Hingham, MA.33 Born on 13 Sep 1745 in Scituate, MA.116 Ruth died in Hingham, MA, on 25 Jun 1830; she was 84.

Ruth’s third husband, Amos Sprague, was the widower of Ruth’s sister Desire. He was also a first cousin of her first husband, Benjamin Stodder.

24351. Thomas Cushing. Born on 21 Mar 1746/7 in Hingham, MA.33 Thomas died in Fenner, Madison Co., NY, on 15 Dec 1823; he was 76.48 Buried in Needham Cemetery, Fenner.

Thomas and Elizabeth resided on Union St. ‘over the river’. About 1795 they removed to the then wilderness of central New York, where soon afterwards he purchased a large tract, and built the homestead, still in the possession of his descendants, in Fenner, NY. He was a grave, very religious man, and gave much attention to the education of his sons. He was a deacon of the church and served as a soldier in the Revolution.48

On 30 Sep 1773 when Thomas was 26, he married Elizabeth Turner (22318) , daughter of Benjamin Turner (19549) (5 Aug 1698-12 Aug 1748) & Marcy Turner (10148) (24 Sep 1703-19 Feb 1787), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 5 Apr 1747 in Scituate, MA.116 Elizabeth died in Fenner, Madison Co., NY, on 31 Oct 1823; she was 76.48

24353. Nathaniel Cushing. Born on 30 Mar 1753 in Hingham, MA.33 Nathaniel died in 1794 in Scituate, MA.

Nathaniel purchased from Philip the estate known as the ‘Cushing Homestead’ of the late Nathan Cushing, a grandson of Nathaniel.7

Nathaniel and Alice settled in Scituate, MA. Nathaniel was a drummer in Capt. Wm. Turner’s (3rd Scituate) Co., Col. Anthony Thomas’s regt. 1775, also private in Capt. Nathaniel Winslow’s Co., Brig.-Gen. John Thomas’ regt. the same year, and Sergeant in Capt. Freedone Chamberlain’s Co., Col. Simeon Cary’s regt. in 1776.48

Nathaniel died suddenly on the road to Hanover in 1794. No record of his death has been found, other than this statement made by his descendants.7

On 30 Jun 1774 when Nathaniel was 21, he married Alice Cushing (24474) , daughter of Dea. Joseph Cushing (12111) (21 Nov 1711-2 Jan 1767) & Lydia King (14422) (26 Dec 1716-), in Scituate, MA.421 Born in 1756 in Scituate, MA.116 Alice was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 19 Jun 1757.193 Alice died on 26 Aug 1848 in Scituate, MA.116 “old age”.

Alice often spelled her name Ellis. Alice and Nathaniel were second cousins since their paternal grandfathers were brothers.
