25749. Mary Otis. Born on 10 Dec 1685 in Hingham, MA.33 Mary died bef Nov 1732.
Mary married Capt. Isaac Little (20157) , son of Lieut. Isaac Little (8338) (ca 1646-24 Nov 1699) & Bethiah Thomas (ca 1650-23 Sep 1718). Born on 21 Feb 1677 in Marshfield, MA.20 At the age of 23, Isaac was baptized in Marshfield, MA, on 24 Mar 1700.121 Isaac died in Pembroke, MA, on 2 Feb 1758; he was 80.48
Isaac, of Marshfield. As early as 1708, he had acquired a large interest in the furnace at Furnace Pond, Pembroke (then Duxbury), established in 1702 by Lambert Despard. He removed to Pembroke in the summer of 1726, and lived on the estate of his father-in-law, Joshua Cushing. This property has been known as the ‘Little Estate,’ and remained in possession of Isaac’s descendants for several generations.7

John was representative from Barnstable, and member of ‘His Majesty’s Honorable Council’ from 1747 until his death. He was king’s attorney.223
On 13 Dec 1711 when John was 24, he married Grace Hayman, daughter of Capt. Nathaniel Hayman (17 Jan 1656/7-27 Jul 1689) & Elizabeth Allen, in Barnstable, MA.223 Born on 31 Jan 1684/5. At the age of <1, Grace was baptized on 19 Apr 1685.2

25751. Nathaniel Otis. Born on 28 May 1690 in Barnstable, MA.223 Nathaniel died in Dec 1739 in Sandwich, MA.223
Nathaniel settled at Sandwich, where he married Abigail. He was Register of Probage for Barnstable Co. for many years.223
On 21 Dec 1710 when Nathaniel was 20, he married Abigail Russell, daughter of Rev. Jonathan Russell (18 Sep 1655-21 Feb 1710/1) & Martha Moody (ca 1660-28 Sep 1729), in Sandwich, MA.223 Born on 2 Oct 1687 in Barnstable, MA.223 Abigail died in Mansfield Co., on 20 Mar 1774; she was 86.223
Abigail ‘was in every way a woman of merit and excellence, of exceedingly good natural abilities, very inquisitive, possessed of natural dignity and respectability, and was a person of very considerable reading and extensive observation. She had all along in life been much conversant with ministers, gentlemen of the court, and persons of the first respectability. She was ever learning and imbibing something profitable, and took singular delight in the conversation of instructive characters.’ After her husband’s death she resided at Newport with her son, and died at the house of her son-in-law, Edmund Freeman, in Mansfield Co.223

On 26 Dec 1715 when Mercy was 22, she married Rev. Jonathan Russell, son of Rev. Jonathan Russell (18 Sep 1655-21 Feb 1710/1) & Martha Moody (ca 1660-28 Sep 1729). Born on 24 Feb 1689/90 in Barnstable, MA. At the age of <1, Jonathan was baptized in Barnstable, MA, on 16 Mar 1690. Jonathan died in Wethersfield, CT, on 10 Sep 1759; he was 69. Education: Yale 1708.

25753. Solomon Otis. Born on 13 Oct 1696 in Barnstable, MA.223 Solomon died in Barnstable, MA, on 2 Jan 1778; he was 81.223 Education: Harvard 1717.223
Solomon held numerous offices such as Register of Deeds, County Treasurer, Special Justice of Peace for the county, etc.223
On 4 May 1724 when Solomon was 27, he married Jane Turner (19122) , daughter of Col. Amos Turner Esq. (7871) (ca 1671-13 Apr 1739) & Mary Hyland (7629) (15 May 1667-5 Nov 1729). Born on 4 May 1697 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of 12, Jane was baptized in First Parish Church, Scituate, on 10 Jul 1709.116 Jane died in Barnstable, MA, on 18 Nov 1772; she was 75.223

25754. Col. James Otis Esq. Born on 14 Jun 1702 in Barnstable, MA.223 James died in Barnstable, MA, on 9 Nov 1778; he was 76.223
“Mr. Otis rose to be a man of great distinction and influence, of superior genius, but more indebted to the native energy of his mind than to a regular education, for the acquirements he possessed. The simplicity of the life and times is shouwn by the fact that accidental circumstances led him to engage in the legal profession. On one occasion when he was at Court in Barnstable, a neighbor, who had a case pending, was unprovided with counsel, and solicited his aid. He consented to act, and managed the case with such ability as to receive the strong encomiums of the court, and appreciative friends induced him to study for the profession of the law, in which he soon acquired a commanding position. His study of the principles of law, as connected with politicl institutions, had prepared him for a clear perception of the effects that would have resulted from the execution of the ministerial plans agains the colonies, and he ardently engaged in asserting their rights. He was elected a member of the provincial legislature in 1758, made Speaker of the House in 1760, and continued in that office for two years, when he was negatived by Gov. Bernard.
“He was, among his other positions, also Colonel of the militia. A document is given in ‘Barstable Families,’ Vol. II. pg. 42, ordering a troop of horse in the County of Barnstable, Aug. 14, 1757, to which his name is signed as ‘Coll’n of st. Regiment.”
“In 1763 he was appointed Judge of Probate for Barnstable county, and Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, Feb. 1764, and he continued at the head of that court until the Revolution. The same year he was again chosen Speaker of the House, and also one of his Majesty’s Council, but was negatived by the Governor, owing to his opposition to the measures of teh government. HE was elected into the Council every succeeding yer, and was negatived ass regularly as chosen, until 1770, when Lieut. Col. Hutchinson approbated the choiser. Mr. Otis sat at the Council board during the first years of the war; he was president and oldest member of that body. From the departure of Gage and the adoption of the state constitution, he exercised during that period the functions of chief executive magistrate of Mass.
“He served on many committees of the legislature during the period from 1760-1775, which reported some of the most remarkable of those sincere and masterly state papers which were produced during the period preceding the epoch of the American Revolution. His name has been frequently mentioned in terms of high esteem, as a compeer with Adams, Quincy and Hancock.”223
ca 1722 James married Mary Allyn (20959) , daughter of Joseph Allyn (8796) (7 Apr 1671-bef Apr 1742) & Mary Doty (11166) (9 Jul 1671-bef 6 Apr 1742), in Wethersfield, CT. Born on 10 Nov 1702 in Plymouth, MA.26 Mary died bef 21 Apr 1774.
Mary Allyn, of Wethersfield, CT, was born in 1702 in the ancient Alleyne house at Plymouth, which stood on Cole’s Hill, where the Universalist Church is now (1936) standing.7
