Lusanna is listed as “Susannah” in the Hanover birth records.292

On 21 Mar 1755 when Lusanna was 22, she married Dea. John Ruggles (9541) , son of Dea. John Ruggles (11754) (16 Mar 1679-5 Dec 1772) & Joanna Brooks (2765) (5 Sep 1695-26 Mar 1779).104 Born on 13 Jun 1729 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of <1, John was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 22 Jun 1729.193 John died in Scituate, MA, on 6 May 1812; he was 82.116 Buried in South Parish Cem. Norwell. 116

John inherited the farm of Thomas Brooks, his maternal uncle. (Thomas Brooks left no children). He was a Deacon of the Second Church of Scituate said to be a man of remarkable purity of character.6

Will: In the Name of God amen I John Ruggles of Scituate in the County of Plymouth, yeoman, being weak & infirm, being never the less, through the Goodness of God of sound & disposing Mind & Memory, after recommending my Soul to God who gave it, & my Body to decent Christian Burial, at the discretion of my Executor herein after named, do for the disposition the worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me, ordain & make this to be my last will & Testament in manner following. Viz
    Imp.: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Lucy [Lusanna] Ruggles after the payment of my just debts & funeral Charges, herein after provided for the one half of my household Furniture, & the one third of all the rest of m personal Estate, except my wearing apprarel, which I herein after otherwise disposed of. Also I give her to use & Improvement of the one half of my Real Estate during her natural life
    Item: it is my will that my Son Thomas Ruggles should pay? all my just debts and funeral Charges out of my personal Estate
    Item: I give & bequeath to my beloved Son Thomas Ruggles my wearing apparel
    Item: I give & bequeath all the rest of my Estate both Real & personal wherever it may be found, after the payment of my debts & charges (reserving to my Wife the Improvement as aforesaid) to my Son Thomas Ruggles & to my beloved Daughter Hannah Young wife of Elisha Young, to be so divided between them that my Son Thomas Rugles [sic] shall have three fifth thereof and my Daughter Hannah Young shall have two fifth thereof
    Lastly I do hereby appoint my son Thomas Ruggles Executor of this my last Will & Testament In Testimony whereof I the said John Ruggles have hereunto set my hand & seal this twenty fourth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & Ninety four - [note: he d. in 1812]

To all people to whom these presents shall come Joshua Thomas Esqr Judge of
    the Probate of Wills & in the County of Plymouth within the Commonwealth of
    Massachusetts sendeth Greeting

    Know ye that on the first day of June Anno Domini 1812, Instrument hereunto
    annexed (purporting? the last will and Testament of John Ruggles late of
    Scituate in said County yeoman deceased) was presented for probate by Thomas
    Ruggles the Executor therein named then present Samuel Curtis junr, John
    Hatch, & Elisha Foster all the witnesses thereto subscribed, who made oath
    that they saw the said Testator sign, seal & heard him declare the said
    Instrument to be his last will & Testament & that they subscribed their names
    together as Witnesses to the Execution thereof in the said Testator; presence
    & that he was then (to the best of their Judgement) of sound & disposing mind
    wherefore I do prove approve & allow of the said Instrument as the Last Will
    & Testament of the before named deceased & us? commit the administration
    thereof in all Matters the same concerning, & of his Estate whereof he died
    seized & possessed in said County unto Thomas Ruggles the before named
    Executor, will & faithfully to execute the said will & to administer the
    Estate of the said deceased according thereto; who accepted of his said
    Trust? & gave bond with Sureties to return an Inventory of said deceased;
    Estate & according to the direction of the Law, & he shall under an account
    (upon oath) of his proceedings when thereunto lawfully require. In Testimony

    The Homestead of the deceased lying in said Scituate containing about 50?

    deceased purchased of Joseph Tolman.

    About 13 &half; acres of Woodland lying in said Scituate at a place called Wildcat.

    One Acre & 36 rods of Meadow Land lying in said Scituate on North River.

    About 3 &half; acres of Cedar & swamp Land

    You are hereby directed & impowered to make a just division or partition of
    the Real Estate whereof John Ruggles late of Scituate in the County if
    Plymouth yeoman deccd died seized & possessed to & among his Children
    agreeably to the will of said deceased in three fifth parts to Thomas Ruggles
    & two fifth parts to Hannah Young wife of Elisha Young. To this trust you
    are to be sworn. You are to notify all who are interested to be present at
    said Division (if they see cause) to make return of your doings into the
    Registry of Probate for the aforesaid County - as soon as may be - Given
    under my hand & seal of office this first day of June A.D. 1812. --- J.

    Pursuant to a warrant to us directed by the Hon. Joshua Thomas Esqr. Judge of
    the Probate of wills &c for the County of Plymouth, we the Subscribers have
    taken a view of the deceased died seized & have made said division the [ ] of
    according to the last will & Testament of the said deceased as follows viz:

    We have set off to Thomas Ruggles Son of the said deceased the following
    described Tracts of Land part of the Estate of the said deceased viz:

    one piece of Land containing eighteen acres & an half together with all that
    part of the Buildings thereon belonging to the Estate of said deceased &
    bounded westerly by the Highway leading from Delano's to Joseph Tolman's
    northerly by the Late of William Brooks, easterly by Dwelly's Creek (so
    called) & Southerly by Land belonging to the Heirs of Eunice [Oakman] Ruggles
    deceased,

    also five acre & sixty four rods of meadow & upland lying on the easterly
    side of the aforesaid Creek & is bounded viz: beginning at the Bridge
    leading to Brooks Island so called thence running northeasterly by said Creek
    'till it comes to Nathaniel Turners meadow & Jonathan Oldham's meadow Till it
    comes to the Land of the said William Brooks, thence with his Land 'till it
    comes to Meadow belonging to Elisha Foster, thence with said Fosters meadow &
    Land of said Brooks 'till it comes to a marked sapling oak Tree standing at a
    corner of said Brooks' meadow near said Creek thence north sixty three
    degrees west eight rods & sixteen Links By the side of the upland thence by
    said upland north fifty four degrees west six rods, thence by said upland
    north forty four degrees & one quarter west eight rods & thence Links Thence
    by said upland north fifty seven degrees west six rods & eleven Links to a
    marked oak Tree thence south twenty one degrees west one rod & two Links to
    the aforesaid Creek thence up said Creek to the Bound first mentioned.

    Also eight acres & one hundred & fifty five rods of pasture Land lying on the
    westernly side of the Highway aforesaid & bounded beginning at a Corner of
    the said William Delano's Land, thence with a fence? Seventy seven degrees &
    an half west, twenty one rods & five Links, thence south sixty five degrees
    west twenty five rods & eight Links to a corner thence south three degrees
    east twenty five rods & fifteen Links, thence south eighty degrees east
    thirty six rods & twenty two Links to said Highway, thence with said Highway
    to the corner first mentioned,

    also eight acres three quarters & twelve rods of woodland lying in said
    Scituate at a place called Wildcat & is part of a Lot containing thirteen
    acres one half & twenty rods & is bounded southerly by the Land of Nathaniel
    Turner, westerly by the Land of Benjamin Delano & north easterly by a road
    leading through said Lot.

    We have also sett off to the said Thomas Ruggles three fifth parts of a Pew
    in the Revd. Mr. Dean's meeting house in said Scituate.

    Also ten acres & one quarter of Land, being the Land which said deceased
    purchased of Charles Clapp & Joseph Tolman, bounded northerly & easterly by
    the Land of the Heirs of Eunice Ruggles deceased westerly by the Land of the
    said William Delano & southerly by the Land of the said Joseph Tolman ---

    We have assigned & set off to Hannah [Ruggles] Young the wife of Elisha Young
    the residue Of the Real Estate of the said deceased consisting of the
    following described Tracts of Land all lying in the Town of Scituate
    aforesaid viz:

    sixteen acres three quarters & thirty five rods of Pasture Land bounded viz
    northerly by the eight acres & one hundred & fifty five rods of pasture Land
    above assigned to the said Thomas Ruggles easterly by the Highway aforesaid
    leading from William Delano's to Joseph Tolman's southerly by a House Lot in
    possession of Stephen Nye & Land of Matthew Tower & westerly by Land of the
    said Nathl. Turner & said Joseph Tolman.

    Also three acres & one half of Cedar swamp & swampy Land bounded northerly &
    southerly by Land of Nathaniel Brooks easterly to Benson's neck (so called) &
    westerly by the Highway or near it.

    Also four acres three quarters & eight rods of woodland lying at a place
    called Wildcat being part of Lot of Woodland containing thirteen acres one
    half & twenty rods & bounded south westerly by a road leading through said
    Lot, easterly & northernly by a road formerly laid out, but not now improved
    being a triangular piece of Land -

    also one acre & thirty six rods of Meadow adjoining North River at a place
    called the Whirlpool & is bounded northerly & easterly by North river &
    southerly & westerly by Meadow belonging to the Heirs of Abner Stetson
    deceased.

    Also one acre & give rods of Meadow adjoining Brooks Island so called & is
    bounded viz: beginning at a marked Sapling Oak Tree, being at the Corner of
    Meadow belonging to the said William Brooks near the aforesaid Creek, thence
    runs with the upland north sixty three degrees west eight rods & sixteen
    Links, thence with said upland north fifty four degrees west six rods, thence
    with said upland north forty four degrees & one quarter west eight rods &
    five Links, thence north fifty seven degrees west six rods & eleven Links to
    a marked oak Tree, thence south twenty one degrees west one rod & two Links
    to said Creek, thence down said Creek till it corner to the meadow of the
    said William Brooks, thence with his meadow 'till it comes to the marked
    Sapling Tree aforesaid.

    also two fifth parts of a Pew in the Revd. Mr. Dean's meeting house in said
    Scituate,

    we also assign to the said Hannah the privilege of passing & re-passing to &
    from the aforesaid one acre & five rods of Meadow through the Land herein
    assigned to the said Thomas Ruggles where it shall be most convenient or
    least prejudicial.

    And whereas for the accommodation of the said Thomas & the said Hannah & at
    their joint request we have set off to the said Thomas more Land than his
    share by the sum of two hundred & sixty Dollars & six Cents, we do therefore
    order & direct the said Thomas to pay to the said Hannah the said sum of two
    hundred & sixty Dollars & six Cents on demand. ---

30216. Lieut. Samuel Barstow. Born on 28 Jul 1734 in Hanover, MA.292 Samuel died in Hanover, MA, on 4 May 1826; he was 91.104

Samuel lived in Hanover on King Street and is described as “a man of infinite hest; spory as a boym even at the age of 70 and as full of his jokes.” He was a selectman from 1765-67, in 1772, 1776 and 1777.162

On 27 Jan 1757 when Samuel was 22, he first married Huldah House (31547) , daughter of Samuel House (30122) (20 Dec 1706-16 Nov 1770) & Deborah Barstow (21480) (ca 1712-1 Jan 1802), in Hanover, MA.104 Born on 12 Oct 1735 in Hanover, MA.292 Huldah died in Hanover, MA, on 26 Sep 1790; she was 54.

Samuel and Huldah were first cousins as his father and her mother were siblings.

30217. Lydia Barstow. Born on 14 Mar 1736 in Hanover, MA.292 At the age of <1, Lydia was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 20 Mar 1736/7.116 Lydia died in Hanover, MA, on 17 Sep 1767; she was 31.104

On 11 Feb 1762 when Lydia was 25, she married Seth Bailey (35923) , son of John Bailey (30967) (23 May 1703-28 Sep 1778) & Elizabeth Cowen (13 Mar 1697-12 Apr 1778), in Hanover, MA.104 Born on 5 Jul 1739 in Hanover, MA.292 Seth died in Hanover, MA, on 12 Oct 1796; he was 57.162

Seth lived first on Curtis St., in his father’s house, then on Union St. where in 1853 John Dwelley lived. He was selectman in 1781-1782.162

Charles married Sarah Smith, daughter of Jasiel Smith (ca 1700-Jun 1757) & Hannah Gachet (1707-ca 1755). Born ca 1746 in Taunton, MA. Sarah died in 1819 in Taunton, MA.

30220. Seth Barstow. Born on 15 Jun 1742 in Hanover, MA.292 Seth died in Sharon, CT, on 10 Oct 1822; he was 80.104 Occupation: Shipwright.

Seth and Ruth lived for at time at Marthas Vineyard, then moved to Mattapoisett, and moved to Sharon in 1777.162

On 1 Dec 1766 when Seth was 24, he married Ruth Allen (28481) , daughter of Thomas Allen (16896) (ca 1711-9 Sep 1794) & Ruth Cartwright, in Tisbury, MA.104 Born on 16 Dec 1745.104 Ruth died in Sharon, MA, on 17 Nov 1816; she was 70.

From the History of Hanover:162
    Daniel “lived on King st., where his son Daniel resides [in 1853]. He is described by Hon. G. H. Barstow, as ‘a gent. of the old school, dressed in cocked hat, long blue coat, breeches, and long boots, fastened at the knee by a strap and buckle.’ This was in 1809. He was Selectman in 1786, and Capt. of one of the old Military Companies prior to 1800.”

On 4 Jul 1771 when Daniel was 27, he married Elizabeth Tilden (29682) , daughter of Job Tilden (18419) (17 Oct 1725-23 Jun 1809) & Elizabeth Vinal (20752) (8 Aug 1717-3 Mar 1799), in Hanover, MA.104 Born on 5 Aug 1748 in Hanover, MA.292 Elizabeth died in Hanover, MA, on 8 Mar 1826; she was 77.162

Elisha and Grace were second cousins. His paternal grandmother and her maternal grandmother were sisters.

On 19 Oct 1769 when Grace was 21, she married Elisha Foster (34595) , son of Dea. Elisha Foster (27299) (28 May 1708-23 Apr 1771) & Temperance Freeman (ca 1715-22 Jul 1777), in Hanover, MA.116 Born on 28 Apr 1745 in Scituate, MA.116 Elisha died in Scituate, MA, on 9 Jul 1827; he was 82.116 Occupation: shipbuilder.

Elisha was a shipbuilder at the Wanton shipyard, Norwell. In 1815 Elisha took his sons Seth, Samuel, and Walter, in company wiith him, and after that date the firm of Elisha Foster & Sons built several vessels taht became somewhat famous. Among them was the ship Globe, 235 tons, a whaler, which was the first vessel to bring 2000 barels of sperm oil into the United States. In 1824 a horrible mutiny occurred on her off Fanning’s Island, which brought the naem of this vessel further to public notice. In 1817 six vessels were built at the Foster yard.7
