“Joseph Copeland came into Scituate from Bridgewater, 1730, a descendant of Lawrence Copeland, an early settler in Braintree.”6

Joseph came from Bridgewater to Scituate in 1730. He succeeded to Captain Tolman’s residence on Stetson Road, where he continued the tannery of his father-in-law.7

On 23 Jul 1735 when Joseph was 29, he married Elizabeth Tolman (11379) , daughter of Capt. Benjamin Tolman (3603) (28 Nov 1676-1766) & Elizabeth Perry (27 Jun 1682-), in the Second Church of Scituate.116,85 Born on 5 Nov 1713 in Scituate, MA. Elizabeth died in Scituate, MA, on 13 Nov 1798; she was 85.
