Joseph was a soldier in the Revolution. His record, given in Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionar War, pp. 564-565, read: ‘Sergeant, Capt. Thomas Eaton’s co., Col. Green’s regt., which marched on the alram of April 19, 1775; service, 12 days; reported as belonging to train band; also, 2nd Lieutenant; Capt. James Bancroft’s (4th) co., 2d Middlesex Co. regt.; list of officers of Mass. militia; commissioned Aug. 20, 1777.’272

On 10 Jan 1750 when Joseph was 14, he married Elizabeth Temple (27602) , daughter of Lieut . John Temple (15911) (21 Oct 1704-22 Feb 1776) & Rebecca Parker (17297) (3 Mar 1706-3 May 1770).238 Born on 28 Jul 1736 in Reading, MA.14 At the age of <1, Elizabeth was baptized in Wakefield, MA, on 15 Aug 1736. Elizabeth died in Reading, MA, on 5 Oct 1815; she was 79.272 Buried in Laurel Hill Cem., Reading.
