From The New York genealogical and biographical record (Volume 93):
    Hon. Joseph Wadsworth, born 1767; married 1787, Mary, dau. of Lieut. Philip and Lydia (House) Perry. In 1785 he traded his place at Pleasant Valley, with a Mr. Potter, for the inn at Pittstown, Rensselaer Co., N. Y. This inn is now one of the old landmarks of the county, and is still in the possession of one of his descendants. He was a man of large property interests and bought and sold land continually. In 1797 to 1803, he bought up from the heirs all the land in Bennington left by his wife's stepfather, Lieut. Robert Blair. He also bought his brother Samuel's interest in their father's home on Mt. Anthony. Joseph Wadsworth, Sr., was a member of the New York Assembly in 1828, representing Rensselaer Co.

On 7 Aug 1800 when Samuel was 21, he married Martha Rudd, daughter of Joseph J. Rudd (26 Mar 1740-25 May 1818) & Sarah Story (11 Nov 1744-11 Oct 1842), in Bennington, Bennington County, Vermont. Born on 28 Jun 1783. Martha died in Bennington, Bennington County, Vermont, on 23 Sep 1846; she was 63.
