Erastus is a laborer on the farm of Norman Heines.

The 1875 Atlas of Shiawassee County shows 80 acres for E. Burnett, 40 acres on either side of S. Ruess Road, halfway between Brewer and Pittsburg Roads. This is still mostly farmland with a couple of houses along the road.

Death Certificate, Michigan Department of State, Lansing, Vital Statistics Division. Register No. 10, Sept w, 1899, Bennington Township, Shiawassee County. Erastus Burnett died 17 August 1899 aged 75 years, one month and 19 days of Euteritis. He was born in Ohio. His father was Elisha Burnett, and his mother was Lida Smith. Both were born in Vermont. Erastus was a farmer who was first married when he was 40 years old. He never fathered a child. He was buried on 20 August 1899 in Alton Cemetery. The informant was Jane Burnett of Pittsburg, Michigan.
On 15 May 1864 when Erastus was 39, he married Elizabeth Jane Bishop (59745) in Bennington Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan. Born on 25 Mar 1820 in Oswego or Otsego County, New York, or Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Jane died in Bennington Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan, on 17 Jun 1906; she was 86. She died of heart disease. Buried on 19 Jun 1906 in Alton Cemetery, Bennington Township.

Elizabeth Jane Bishop, usually known as Jane. She first married Norman Monroe, second Stephen Skellinger as his third wife, third Erastus Burnett, and fourth Henry Monroe as his third wife.

Jane Monroe remarried following Norman’s death in September of 1861. Marriage License # 854 Shiawassee County, Michigan lists Jane Monroe, 39, of Bennington marrying S. S. Kelenger, 42, of Sciota on 28 March 1862. Witnesses were Philetus Waldron and Caroline Waldron. E. E. Castor married them.

Two men named Bishop were buried after the Civil War in Shiawassee County. Henry Bishop served in Company B, 15th Michigan Infantry. He died in 1911 and is buried in Byron Cemetery. M.W. [Marion W.] served in Company H, 160th New York Heavy Artillery, He also died in 1911, but is buried in Pinetree Cemetery.

Lebon and Lillie have been married for seven years. She has had two children and one has died. Lillie and both of her parents were born in Michigan. Fern was born in Michigan. Lebon and his mother were born in Michigan and his father in Canada. Eliza J. is a widow. The census indicates she has not had children. She and both of her parents were born in New York.

Marriage License announcements in 1902 lists Henry Monroe age 65 of Bennington and Jane Burnette 65 of Bennington as having obtained a marriage license. The Owasso Newspaper of June 18, 1906, has the Obituary for Jane. “Mrs. W. H. Monroe, of Bennington Township, died Sunday at 10 o’clock. She was 82 years old and had lived where she died 57 years. Mrs. Monroe had had three husbands, all of whom are dead. She leaves no immediate family, but has some grandchildren in Grand Rapids. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning from the Pittsburg church; burial at Alton Cemetery.”

State of Michigan Death Certificate #130, Register 5 found on http://seekingmichigan.com/ on 12 January 2010, shows that Elizabeth Jane Munroe died in the Township of Bennington, Shaiwassee County, on 17 June 1906. She died of old age and heart trouble. John J. Roach was the attending physician. She was born 25 March 1820 and was 86 years, 3 months and 8 days old at death. At her death she was married. Her first marriage took place when she was 15 years old. She had one child who is not living. Her birthplace was Pennsylvania. Her maiden name was Bishop, but her father’s first name, mother’s name and their places of birth are all unknown. Elizabeth Jane worked as a house keeper. The informant was Marry Hutchings of Perry. She was buried in Alton Cemetery 19 June 1906. The undertaker was C. R. Hutchings of Perry. The record was filed 18 June 1906 by B. H. Taylor, Registrar.
