RITES FOR V. D. CUTLER, PIONEER NORA SPRINGS MAN, HELD IN CHURCH
    Nora Springs, Jan 12 – Funeral services for V. D. Cutler were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in charge of the Rev. J. E. DeLong, pastor of the Nora Springs Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Worcester, pastor of the Rockford Methodist church. Burial was at Rock Grove Cemetery with the short service of the Masonic Lodge and members of the Eastern Star attended the funeral in a body.
 Mr. Cutler was born January 26, 1863 on what is now known as the I.N. Meacham farm south of town the son of Demas and Cynthia (Mather) Cutler. He was the youngest of five brothers.
On May 11, 1889 he was married to Clara Sprague McEwen. To this union were born the following children; Mrs. Charlotte Worcester of Chicago; Mrs. Marjory Robeson and Mrs. Flossie Davis of Charles City; Verne Cutler living south of town; Mrs. Irma Rossman, Washington; Kitty Faye Thomas of Detroit, Michigan, is a daughter of Mrs. Cutler by a former Marriage.
 While spending his early years on the farm, Mr. Cutler operated a threshing machine several years and for many years was general agent for the J. I. Case Threshing machine company at Waterloo. Later he moved back to Nora Springs and served as mayor one term. He served two terms as county sheriff. He served as master of Rock Masonic Lodge and later worthy patron of Golden chapter order of Eastern Star.
Mr. Cutler had been ill some time and died early Monday morning. 
He leaves his wife and children and six grandchildren.

Verne Demas first married Bertha Amams. Born ca 1862.
On 11 May 1889 when Verne Demas was 26, he second married Clara Jean Sprague, daughter of Henry Dudley Sprague (20 Dec 1836-19 Jul 1922) & Charlotte Welch (7 May 1842-30 May 1918). Born on 18 Jan 1863 in Ulster, Floyd County, Iowa. Clara Jean died in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa, on 17 Aug 1942; she was 79.

Clara first married Frederick McEwen, second Verne Cutler.
