Obituary, unattributed
    John "Archie" Bullis, 87, a retired businessman from Northport, died Thursday at Leelanau Memorial Hospital. He had lived in Northport since 1952, moving from Casnovia. He was a former professional boxer. He served with the Army in Panama while the Panama Canal was being built. He owned and operated a farm in southern Michigan and worked for Continental Motors Co. in Grand Rapids. In Northport, he owned and operated the former Hotel Northern, which now is Woody's Settling Inn. He enjoyed craftsmanship in leather and wood, and building grandfather clocks. A semi-professional bowler, he won many trophies. He was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Northport. He was born Aug. 20, 1900, in Newaygo, to John and Phoebe (Lloyd) Bullis. He married the former Ann Miller, who died in 1974. On Aug. 22, 1975, in Onekama, he married the former Elizabeth Dalzell, who survives. Also surviving are six step-children, Robert Dalzell, Mrs. Arnold (Barbara) Zeits and Geneva Long, all of Northport, William Dalzell of Wyoming, Mich., Mrs. Dennis (Regina) Denoyer of Traverse City and Mrs. Chuck (Maxine) Davis of Riverdale; six stepgrandchildren, three nephews and a niece. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Isaac and Ben Bullis.
