Mr. John C. Zant, aged 67, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Holland Home Hospice after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary (Rosie): children, Colleen (Marc) Kole, Maureen (Rich) Jones, John Jr. (Shelly), Steven (Carrrie); grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Megan, Hope, Ryan, Ben and Owen; his brothers and sisters, Sue (Jim) Fodor, Mike (Pam) Zant, Rudy (Nancy) Zant, Mary (Ron) Theile, Dennis (Kathy) Zant; brother-in-law, Jim (Tammy) Hickey and sister-in-law, Maureen (Pat) Maher; nieces, nephews and many friends. John was owner of VanderBroek Roofing, Inc., for 32 years. He was a loving husband and father. John was a giving person of his time, energy and friendship. He was incredibly generous and supported many charities including Multiple Sclerosis, the new Richard Lacks Sr. Cancer Center at St. Mary’s Hospital, and the Grand Rapids Catholic Schools.
The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, (please meet at the church). Interment Resurrection Cemetery. The family will receive visiters Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the Patient Information Library, Richard J. Lacks Sr., St. Mary’s Hospital, c/o Dan Sherman, 200 Jefferson SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Both her parents, OB and Sue O Bryon, preceded her in death. She was married to her best friend, Michael Frances Zant for forty years and was the beloved mother of Wendy Sue and Michael Condon. Pam also leaves behind a brother, Michael and sister-in-law, Roodie. She is the aunt to CiCi Wong and Michael on the O Bryon side of her family. Pam was a beloved member of the Zant family who loved her since she was a teenager; including John Zant and Mary Thiele (Zant) who preceded her in death; her sister-in-law, Rosie Zant, Sue Fodor (Zant) and her husband, Jim, and Rudy and his wife, Nancy, brother-in-law, Ron Thiele and Dennis and his wife, Kathy. In addition, Pam was a cherished aunt to ten Zant nieces and nephews. Pam was a native of Grand Rapids and loved her city and following the University of Michigan football and basketball teams. Pam graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1964 and Grand Rapids Community College with a Culinary Arts degree in 2000. Pam coordinated an international chef exchange program for G.R.C.C. for several years after her graduation and traveled extensively during that time. She retired from AT&T after 30 years of dedicated service. A Memorial Mass and celebration of her life will be held at the Cathedral of St. Andrew on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Her family will receive visitors Friday 7 to 9 p.m. at Arsulowicz Brothers, Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd. THIELE - Mary P. (Zant) Thiele, aged 56, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly February 22, 2004. Her husband Ronald survives her. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Condon and Helen Zant and her mother-in-law, Shirley Thiele, and her brother John who also passed away in February 2004. She is survived by her family, Rosie Zant, M. Sue (James) Fodor and Michael (Pamela) Zant, all of Grand Rapids; Rudy (Nancy) Zant of Ft. Myers, FL, and Dennis (Kathy) Zant of Kalamazoo; father-in-law, Jack Thiele of Grand Rapids, MI; sister-in-law, Debbie (Jim) Benchich of Lancaster, PA; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service is being held at Our Lady of Confidence Catholic Church in San Diego, CA, on Saturday, February 28, 2004. A memorial service in Grand Rapids will held on a future date.
