Eugene J. Duppong, 69, of Missoula, die of cancer Dec. 11 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, N.D.
    He was born Sept. 29, 1916, in Glen Ullin, N.D., to Martin and Katherine Schirado Duppong. He was reared and educated in the Glen Ullin area, and worked as a mechanic in Beulah, N.D., for a time. He then was employed as a mechanic for Knife River Coal Co. in Beulah and Scranton, N.D., retiring as a master mechanic in 1981 after nearly 40 years.
    He was married to Eva Mindt in Wibaux and was preceded in death by her. In 1954, he married Vera Richardson. He and his wife lived in Bowman, N.D. for three years and then Scranton until her death in on Oct. 2, 1976.
    In 1982 he married Ruie Johnstone in Missoula, where the couple made their home.
    He also was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
    Survivors included his wife, Die, Missoula: four sons, Jerry Lutz, Evensville, Minn.; Keith Lutz, Elgin, N.D.; Larry Duppong, Beulah; and Dale Duppong, Minneapolis; three daughters, Barbar Winkler, in Utah; Cherl Younker, Beulah; and Virginia Knutson, Bismarck; three sisters, Mary Norman and Len Neuohr, both of Glen Ullin; and Rose Wolfe, Dickinson, N.D.; a brother, Martin Duppong Jr., Missoula: 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Scranton with the Rev. Tom Dignan officiating. Burial was in the Scranton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Oliver Thompson, Lawrence Thomas, Bob Ondrasek, Eugene Thompson, Silas Hoffland, Gordon Wilson and Eugene Riedinger.
    Krebsbach Funeral Service of Bowman was in charge of arrangements.

    Helen J. Duppong MISSOULA - Helen J. Duppong, 68, of Missoula died Tuesday, May 12, at St. Patrick Hospital, after a short courageous battle with cancer.
    Helen was born April 12, 1930, in Dodge, N.D., to Peter and Pauline Marquart. She was raised and educated in North Dakota.
    Helen was married to Martin J. Duppong Jr. on Sept. 15, 1951, in Dodge. The couple moved to Missoula in 1952. Most recently, Helen was employed at Paxson School and greatly enjoyed working with the children.
    Survivors include her three daughters, Joan ''Chucki" and her husband, Dennis Cocchiarella of Salt Lake City, Martina and her husband, Jim Rolando of Missoula and Jamie and her husband, Brad McCauley of Vacaville, Calif.; one sister, Esther Boespflug of Dickinson, N.D.; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Gladys Brandl of Missoula. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Martin, a brother, Leo Marquart and a grandson.
    A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
A Memorial Mass is at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at the church with the Rev. Tom Healy S.J., as celebrant. Placement of the urn will follow at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. A luncheon will follow back at the church.
    The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in Helen's name to the Missoula County Cancer Association, 3005 Queen, Missoula, Mont., 59801.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Sunset Chapel, 7405 Mullan Road.
