Catherine Magdelena Schwartz was born November 24, 1909 in her grandparents' sod house about nine miles north of Hebron, ND. She was the oldest of 14 children. As soon as Katie was old enough, she helped where ever she was needed, whether in the house with the little ones or out in the field with a team of horses or a tractor. She remembered milking cows at the age of seven. She used to help hoe a 40 acre field of corn. In 1934 Katie helped her brother cut, rake and stack thistles. These thistles saved the cattle herd, as there was little hay that year.
In 1935 Katie went to Washington to work, one year at Wenatchee doing housework and one year in Harrington where she cooked on a ranch. In 1938 she returned to help on the family farm to binder, shock, header, stack hay, thresh with her own team, and do housework. One of her brothers frequently organized barn dances that were held on the family farm.
Katie married Frank Neurohr on October 15, 1940, and they moved onto the Neurohr homestead. She and Frank worked together rearing eight children and working the farm.
Katie liked to read, try new recipes, and crochet until her eyesight prevented her from doing that. Because of her many responsibilities at home, Katie was unable to join any organizations, but she supported them by food and monetary donations.
Katie is survived by seven children, Harold (Sharon) Neurohr, Halliday, Clayton, Neurohr, Halliday, Elaine Neurohr, Dodge, Marion Bosch, Halliday, Adrian Neurohr, Dodge, Louise Neurohr, Dickinson, and Clark Neurohr, Dodge; one son-in-law, James Amann, Vancouver, WA; brother, Raymond (Virginia) Schwartz, Hebron; sister, Clara (Tony) Fischer, Spokane, WA; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 1, 1998; daughter, Margaret Amann; granddaughter, Jeanna Beth Amann; son-in-law, John Bosch; daughter-in-law, Diana Neurohr; brothers, Albert, Nickolaus, Kasper, Frank, Matt, Carl, Richard and William; and her sisters, Ann Haughton, Barbara Kokkeler, and Elizabeth Grinsteinner.
On 15 Oct 1940 when Catherine Magdelena was 30, she married Frank B. Neurohr, son of John Neurohr (19 Mar 1872-26 Dec 1934) & Maria Ferniece (15 Mar 1874-24 Mar 1947). Born on 14 Oct 1908. Frank B. died on 1 Jul 1998; he was 89. Buried in Halliday Cemetery, Dunn County.
