    Ada Elaine Jones, 83, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, February 19, 2004, at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility.
    She was born May 24, 1920, the daughter of Elwood and Lenora (LePre) MacDonald and lived her entire life in the Battle Creek and Pennfield areas. She was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and Mulliney Business School.
    During World War II she worked in the payroll office at Eaton Manufacturing and at the close of the war was Secretary to the Sales Commissary officer at Fort Custer. From 1949 to 1953 she was employed in the Control office of Sears & Roebuck & Co. Ada was a homemaker after her retirement from Sears.
    On October 16, 1943, Ada E. MacDonald married Albert E. Jones in Greenville Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death December 19, 1991.
    She is survived by a sister, Dora E. Spangler of Streamwood Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.
    Ada was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, active with the Battle Creek Civic Theater and was in charge of the make-up department. She was a hostess at the U.S.O. on Southwest Capital Avenue and a Gray Lady at Percy Jones General Hospital during the war. Her homemade cookies were a much heralded treat in the neighborhood, at doctor’s offices and for special friends. Many remember her holiday catering around town.
    At the request of the family, no visitation is planned.
    A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Rev. James Luedeman officiating.

Jones, son of Gorton Vernett Jones (6 Dec 1875-28 Apr 1939) & Emily Frances Kinney (20 Aug 1875-14 Aug 1953), in Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Born on 1 Apr 1913 in Clinton County, Michigan. Albert E. died in Penfield, Calhoun County, Michigan, on 19 Dec 1991; he was 78. Buried in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.

    Dora Elizabeth Spangler of Streamwood Dora Elizabeth Spangler, 88, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Tower Hill Healthcare Center in South Elgin. She was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Elwood and Lenore (nee LePr) MacDonald. In the mid 1940's Dora moved to Chicago to attend the Art Institute where she met her husband-to-be, fellow student, Morris Spangler. They married on Feb. 14, 1948, and lived in Chicago until 1958, when they moved, with two kids in tow, into their first home in Streamwood. While working full time, Dora helped her new community grow by working tirelessly with School District U-46 to bring more schools to the village. Active with the PTA while her children were in school, she later volunteered as a Reading Grandma at her local elementary school after she retired in 1986. An engaged social individual, she loved to entertain and to cook and bake; among her friends and neighbors, her lemon meringue pie was legendary.
    She is survived by her children, Scott (Kathi) Spangler of Omro, Wis. and Lisa (Rusty) Winchel of South Elgin; grandchildren, Patrick (Jeannie Butzow) Sampson of Streamwood, Drew Sampson of Berlin, Germany, Braden (Brittney Peyton) Spangler and Kyle Spangler of Kansas City, Mo.; stepgrandchildren Tom, Rob and Phil Pinkasavage, and their families: two great-grandsons, Ayden Sampson and Jackson Spangler; honorary daughter, Trish Powers and her family of Bedford, Texas; and many longtime friends. "We love you Bubbles, you'll be missed." In addition to her parents, Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, on April 26, 2008; and her sister, Ada Jones.
    There will be no public service; a private burial at Bluff City Cemetery is planned for later in the spring. Arrangements were made by Countryside Funeral Homes & Crematory of South Elgin, 847-289-8054.
On 14 Feb 1948 when Dora Elizabeth was 24, she married Morris Spangler, son of John H. Spangler (15 Aug 1899-26 Sep 1972) & Hazel Martha Morris (8 May 1894-14 Oct 1939), in Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan. Born on 10 Aug 1923 in Nodaway County, Missouri. Morris died in Streamwood, Cook County, Illinois, on 26 Apr 2008; he was 84.
