Introduction

Over this summer of 2003, and later as well, I intend to write some web pages to introduce the reader to modern algebra. So far, I've just begun the project with a few pages on groups.

I'll use these pages in my college-level course this fall. I've taught the course several times, and although there are some good textbooks on the subject, none of them present modern algebra just the way I want to do it. These pages should help to supplement the textbook.
