What do we offer?

Two largely nonoverlapping majors, one in Mathematics and one in Computer Science
Two concentrations (interdepartmental minors) in Bioinformatics and in Computational Science
Each major emphasizes fundamental principles, rather than techniques and encourages independent learning through
1. A collection of core courses followed by a choice of advanced and challenging courses

2. Research opportunities for undergraduates starting from the first year Diving into Research seminars.
3. Honors projects, some with joint research with faculty members resulting in articles published in research journals.
All classes are taught by faculty, who are typically well known for their scholarship
Classes are small. Lower level classes average in the low 20s. Upper level classes range in size from 10 to 20.
Facilities. The computer lab is a cluster of 25 600 to 1000 MHz Unix-based desktops administered by advanced students. All computer science labs take place in this lab.

What do our students do after Clark?

Computer Science students may go into industry (many do) or graduate school.
Recent CS graduates have been hired by Sun Microsystems, 3-Com, Compaq, Oracle, Metrowerks, as well as a variety of startup companies. Others have gone onto graduate schools such as Brown University, University of Illinois, Georgia Institute of Technology, UC San Diego.
What about Mathematics students?
Some of our best undergraduate go on to top graduate schools: Brown, Cornell, John Hopkins, U Texas at Austin.
Math grads from Clark have many job titles including statistician, engineer, research scientist, numerical analyst, cryptologist, systems analyst, operation researcher, actuary, teach, professor
Apart from a math degree they all have in common
- analytical reasoning skills
- ability to isolate the essential features of a problem and recognize similar patterns in superficially unrelated areas
