  • New England History and Genealogy Free Books Online Effort. See the growing list of local history and genealogy books. The formats for these on-line books varies. A few are in html format which allows you to search for words in your web browser, but most are in an image form. Some are in the image format called GIF which allows you to view them in your web browser, but many are in TIFF format, a format which is more compact than GIF format, but requires something besides your web browser to view. (Information on viewing TIFF format images is available there.) It has links to, among others,
