1159. Richard Allyn. Richard died on 5 Aug 1651.

The spelling of Allen/Allyn/Allin/Alling depends more on location than on family history. The recorders of towns, whether they’re ministers or clerks, tend to use the spelling they’re used to, but they’re not very consistent. So, when a family moves, the spelling of the name can change.

Check out Douglas Richardson’s article in TAG 57 (1981):115-119 for baptisms of
Allens in Braunton.

Richard, possibly son of Matthew & Katherine Allen, or of Nicholas & Margery (Taylor) Allen, or George & Katherine Allen. Not John & Elizabeth (Alabaster) Allen.
On 24 Sep 1583 Richard married Margaret Wyott, daughter of Walter Wyott & Joan Pilford, in Braunton, Devon. Born on 9 Nov 1569 in Braunton, Devon. Margaret died in Hartford, CT in May 1642.

Jacobus argues that the Samuel Allen who died 1848 at Windsor, CT, was not the brother of Matthew Allyn of Hartford and Windsor and of Thomas Allyn of Middletown as is sometimes said.80
