Matthias Hitchcock (Matthew on the manifest) was the first of three brothers to arrive in New England, the other two being Edward and Luke. He was the son of John and Mary Hiscockes. Matthias was born in 1610 in All Cannings, Wiltshire, England. In the Colonies he became a land owner in New Haven, Conn., married Elizabeth Perry, and had four children. He died November 16, 1669.
