John Towne lived at Topsfield till 1698 when he removed to Framingham; bought 211 acres of Joseph Buckminster on the west slope of Bare hill, bounded by the Sudbury river on the south, and taking in the old Amasa Kendall place; built where David near now [1887] lives; was a leading man in town and church affairs; sold, 29 May 1713, 190 acres and buildings to Jonathan Maynard and removed to Oxford, where he was town clerk; selectman; deacon.
