John came to New England in 1634. He was admitted freeman 17 May 1636. He was a selectman at Watertown many times from 1637 through 1680, Town Clerk in 1648 and often afterwards, representative 1651, 1653, and 1663. He was chosen Ensign in 1654, and was Steward of Harvard college in 1662.30
John married Martha Palmer. Martha died in Watertown, MA 7 Feb 1700/1.30
