At a meeting presumed to be at the City Hall in New Amsterdam on 23 Jan 1657, the following business was conducted: Claes Pier Kos, widower of Neel Engels, has girl Marretie, a little over 2 years old,and intends to marry Grietie Maes, widow of Claes Wunsz(?) Michiel Jansz and Egb. Woutersz appointed guardians of child. Being betrothed to Grietie, Claes Pietersen Cos was required by law to make provision for the support of his daughter Marritje Claes. He also agreed to teach her reading, writing, sewing, and some sort of trade, and to give her 200 florins out of her mother's estate. To secure this, he pledged ‘his person and property, especially his bouwerie at Gemoenepa.’
Claes Pietersen first married Neeltje Engels. Neeltje died bef Dec 1656.
