Jonathan first married Mary Sibley, second Deliverance Putnam.
From A History of the Putnam Family, pages 47–48:198 Jonathan had held the positions of captain of the troop of horse and deacon in the church. Although he had opposed the violent measures at the Village, just previous to the witchcraft delusion, during the attempts to settle a minister, he seems to have believed thoroughly the stories of the girls, one of whom was his own daughter, Mary. He seems to have investigated matters but being very much under the authority of the church, was easily prejudiced and afterward was prominent in the witchcraft trials.

[May] 1657.198
