On 1 Nov 1682 when Mercy was 21, she first married Capt. Samuel Fosdick (3631) , son of Sergt. John Fosdick (1457) (ca 1626-17 Sep 1716) & Anna Shapleigh (ca 1627-15 Oct 1679), in New London, CT.142 Born on 15 Dec 1655 in Charlestown, MA.106 At the age of 21, Samuel was baptized on 15 Feb 1677.142 Samuel died in New London, CT, on 27 Aug 1702; he was 46.184

Samuel, of Charlestown, served in the Narragansett War. He was lieut. of the Foot Co. at New London, 1690, and capt. 1697. He was a deputy from New London to the General Court of CT 1694-98, and 1700. He was one of the owners of Plum Island and had thereon a farm under cultivation, well-stocked and productive. His residence in New London was on what was then called Fosdick’s Neck.184
