(#28) Timothy Phelps, b. Windsor, Ct , 26th Oct., 1656, soon removed with his father to Poquonock, m. 1st Sarah Gaylord, 18th Nov, 1686, daughter of Walter and Sarah (Rockwell) Gaylord. Walter Gaylord was son ofWilliam, a first settler of Windsor, and Sarah Rockwell was dau. of William Rockwell, also a first settler. Sarah Gaylord, b. 13th April, 1665, d. 10 Nov., 1685. She had three children.
He m. 2nd, 13th Nov.. 1690, Sarah Pratt, b. Hartford, Ct., 1662, d. 18th Feb., 1758, aged 96 years, daughter of Daniel Pratt. Her grave stone may be seen in the ancient burying ground, Centre Church, at Hartford, the only Phelps stone in the yard. The inscription reads : — “Here lies interred ye body of Mrs. Sarah Phelps, ye relict of Mr. Tim Phelps, who died Feb. ye 18th, 1758, in ye 96th year of her age.”
Mr. Phelps first settled in Simsbury, Ct. removing to Hartford about the time of his 2nd marriage in 1690, where he d. in 1714. His will dated 28th. March, 1712, probated 5th May, 1714. At this time letters of administration granted to Sarah Phelps, relict of Tim. Phelps. No reference is made to his children except that he had seven daughters, and one son.
