      “Bennett, Thomas, S. oi J ames. Born at Concord, Mass., 16 Oct. 1642, d. at Fairfield in 1704. Freeman, Fairfield, 1664. Married Elizabeth Thompson, dau. of John, b. abt. 1644. Thomas Bennett, Sr., conveyed 20 Sept. 1687 to his son Thomas, the home lot that was once John Thompson’s.
      “Thomas, ae. abt. 50, Thomas, Jr., aged 27 (mentioning his uncle John Grumman, Sr.), and Elizabeth, ae. abt. 20, all testified in the Disbrow witchcraft trial, June 1692.
      “Inv. of Thomas, Sr., 17 June 1704. Widow impowered to receive and pay debts. Agreement of heirs of Thomas 29 June 1704; widow Elizabeth, and children Thomas, John, and James Bennett, Samuel Stewart, and Henry Hendricks, for themselves and their minor brother Peter.
      “Daniel Burchard of Cortland, Westchester County, N. Y., in right of his wiie Dorothy, dau. of Hannah Stewart late of Norwalk dec’d, who was dau. and one of the coheirs of Thomas Bennett the first of Fairfield, moved for distribution, 18 July 1769. Distribution was made, a double portion to the children and heirs of Thomas, eldest son, and a single portion to children and heirs of John, James, and Peter Bennett, Hannah late wife of Samuel Stewart dec’d, and Elizabeth late wife of Henry Hendrix dec’d. Samue1 Hendrix appealed and gave bond with J ohn Hendrix.”

Thomas married Elizabeth Thompson, daughter of John Thompson (ca 1614-16 Jun 1696) & Elizabeth Sherwood (ca 1613-ca 1658). Born ca 1644 in Hartford, CT.16

Lt., Albany Expedition, Feb. 1692/3; Lt., Stratfield Trainband, May 1704. Justice, 1709-11, 1714-24. Admitted to Conn. Bar as attorney, Oct. 1708.
      “Born at Fairfield abt. 1645, d. there Oct. 1736. Married (1) abt. 1667, ——— Joy, dau. of Walter. Their son Joseph was remembered in will of his uncle Joseph Joy; while their dau. Abigail named a son Joy Bishop. Married (2) after 1683, Mary, widow of Ephraim Booth, dau. of Jeremiah Osborn; b. at New Haven, 29 Mar. 1653; d. at Stratfield, 28 Nov. 1726 in 73 yr. (g. s.).

Distribution 7 Apr. 1738; Sarah Bryant(?); heirs of Anna Hawley; Abigail Bishop; Mary Osborn; Capt. Thomas Bennett; heirs of J oseph Bennett; Isaac Bennett; Jeremiah Bennett.
      “Lt. James was an original member of Stratfield Church, 1695, and his wife Mary joined by letter from Stratford, 1695. James Sr. and Mary Bennett witnessed will of Mrs. Abigail Hubbell, 11 Feb. 1705, and James Sr. (with Philip Lewis) witnessed the codicil 1O Dec. 1717; all three witnesses made oath, 5 Feb. 1717/8.
      “After death of bis son James, Lt. James in 1714 confirmed gift of lands to the widow and children of his son.
      “Inv. of Est. of Mrs. Rebecca Bennett, 5 Dec. 1741; adm’n granted to John Mackintosh.”

ca 1667/8 James first married Mary Joy (21327) , daughter of Walter Joy (-bef 1667) & Deborah Wathen (8886) (ca 1624/5-).262 Born ca 1647 in poss. Salem, MA.262 Mary died bef 1684 in prob. Fairfield, CT.262

ca 1684 James second married Mary Osborn (6880) , daughter of Jeremiah Osborn (1916) (ca 1624/5-26 Apr 1676) & Mary Davis (ca 1628-1695), in Fairfield, CT.262 Born on 29 Mar 1653 in New Haven, CT.16 At the age of 2, Mary was baptized in First Congregational Society, New Haven, on 21 Oct 1655.30 Mary died in Stratford, CT, on 28 Nov 1726; she was 73.30

Mary was probably the child of Jeremiah and Mary.30

      “Bennett, John, s. of James. Born at FairfieId abt. 1648; m. Mary Thompson, dau. of John, b. abt. 1649. They had children Jeremiah, Ebenezer, Mary, and SamueI, bapt. at FairfieId Church, 6 Sept. 1696, the same day that the mother Mary renewed her Covenant. Shortly aíter, they removed to Cohansey, N. J.
      “The will of John Hurd, Sr., of Stratford, 1680, Ieft ten shillings to John Bennett’s wife Mary.
      “John Bennett of FairfieId in Cohanseyalias Sasqua River, N. J., soId 7 May 1697 FairfieId land to Joseph Kirby. On 20 Oct. 1707, Jeremiah Bennett as attorney for his father John Bennett, both of ‘New FairfieId, West Jersey’, conveyed land in Fairfield to Thomas Turney.”

ca 1670 John married Mary Thompson, daughter of John Thompson (ca 1614-16 Jun 1696) & Elizabeth Sherwood (ca 1613-ca 1658). Born ca 1649.16 Mary died in Nov 1714.

John and Mary had children Jeremiah, Ebenezer, Mary, and Samuel, baptized at the Fairfield Church 6 Sep 1696. Shortly after, they removed to Cohansey, NJ.16

14707. Mary Bennett. Born on 20 Jan 1651[/2] in Fairfield, CT.16 Mary died bet 1654 and 1659 in Fairfield, CT.16

14708. Sarah Bennett. Born ca 1654 in Fairfield, CT.16 Sarah died in 1726 in Fairfield, CT.16

ca 1673 Sarah married Capt. John Osborn, son of Richard Osborn (-1685) & Mary [Osborn] (-1677), in Fairfield, CT.16 John died on 15 Jul 1709 in Fairfield, CT.355
