Jacob probably immigrated 17 Oct 1749 on the Dragon, landing in Philadelphia. His descendants are variously surnamed Crobaugh, Crubaugh, Grumbach, Crumbaugh, or Grubaugh.539
In 1768 Jacob bought land in Frederick County, Maryland, and was taxed there in 1769. At that time Frederick county covered all of western Maryland including what is now Frederick County, Montgomery County, Washington County, Allegany County, and Garrett County. The Mason-Dixon line, the boundary between Maryland and Pennsylvania, had just been surveyed a couple years earlier.
In 1786 he bought land in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
