Joseph lived at Weymouth landing.83 He owned property in Weymouth and Boston. Joseph was lieutenant of the Weymouth militia, and served at the conclusion of Queen Anne’s War with the French and Indians in 1713.226

    Samuel Porter was town officer in Weymouth, 1705. Probably removed to Abington about that time; shoemaker and schoolmaster. Jan. 30, 1712, he “bought of Daniel Axtell, tanner, his farm in Abington, consisting of a dwelling house and half of the Grant to the Briggs”. Assessor of Abington 1716, selectman 1714, and three years after. In 1724 selectmen employed him to keep school; March, 1727, they were directed to “draw six pounds out of the treasury, and pay Mr. Samuel Porter, deceased, his keeping school.” He was one of the original members of the church in Abington.

    Samuel was a town officer in Weymouth in 1705. He and Mary moved to Abington about 1712 where he bought a farm and house from Daniel Axtell. Samuel was one of the original members of the church in Abington. He served as selectman in 1714, and assessor in 1716.

    In the Name of God Amen. — I, Samuel Porter, of Abington in ye County of Plymouth in New England, Sen’r, being in perfect mind & memory (Blessed be God,) do on this twenty-fourth day of August Anno Domni one thousand seven hundred twenty & five, and in ye twelfth year of ye Reign of our sovereign Lord George, King of England, &c., make & ordain this my last Will and Testament, and after having committed my soul to God who gave it & my body to ye dust to be decently buried at ye discretion of my Executors hereafter herein mentioned, in a full and certain hope of a future ressurrection.
    And as for my worldly estate I dispose of in manner & form as followeth (viz.)
    First, I give to my beloved wife Mary Porter, all my household goods & ye iucome of my third part of all my Real Estate during her life.
    Item. — I give to my son Samuel Porter, two acres of land where his house stands, beginning at ye Road six rods northerly from his house and running South-west & then turning a corner South East & running to the place first mentioned and so encompassing to him his heirs & assign forever.
    Item.— I give to my son Samuel Porter & my son Jacob Porter all ye rest of my home living or farm on both sides of ye Road with my house & barn & all my right in ye undivided land in Bridgcwater & that tract of land which was laid out to me in Bridge water by a Committee in ye year one thousand seven hundred & twenty four, & my right in ye Saw mill in Abington with all my stock of Cattle & Horses, sheep & swine & all my personal Estate not yet disposed of. I will give all these to them their heirs & assigns forever ; and it is to be equally divided between two.
    Item 4. — My will further is that my cow & ye half of a Bull & 4 swine which I determined to kill shall be for the support of my family, with the corn which I raise this year both English and Indian.
    Item 5. — I give to my son David & my son John my hundred acres of Land in ye old Men’s shares which I had of my father in law Lieut. Jacob Nash, to be equally divided between them their heirs & assigns forever.
    Item 6. — My will further is that my son Samuel Porter & my Son Jacob Porter pay to my daughter Mary Porter fifty Pounds in money or Bills of Credit within three months after my decease, and also that my two sons Samuel & Jacob shall pay to my daughter Hannah fifty Pounds in money or Bills of Credit when she shall arrive to the age of Eighteen years; this is to my two daughters their heirs & assigns forever.
    Item 7. — My will is that my son David Porter & John Porter shall pay fifty Pounds money or Bills of Credit to my daughter Abigail when she shall arrive to ye age of Eighteen years to her heirs & assigns forever. And I nominate and appoint my son Samuel Porter & my son Jacob Porter to be my Executors on my Estate to prove my will and settle my Estate & to pay my funeral charges & all my just debts & receive all my just dues, and I do hereby exclude all other wills & declare this to be my last will & Testament, and I have hereunto set my hand & Seal ye day & year above mentioned.

James was an ensign in the militia in 1701 and later lieutenant. He served in the Nova Scotia expedition of Queen Anne’s War. James and Experience moved to Abington in 1710. They arrived there with three children, Hannah, James, and Peter, and a black man known as ‘Old Moses.’ James was treasurer of the first town meeting in Abington in 1713, selectman in 1716, 1717, and 1723.226

Samuel, of Abington. Samuel and Sarah moved to South Abington about 1711 where they were among the earliest settlers. Samuel was a sleectman there from 1718 to 1724, first representative from Abington to the General Court in 1735 and several years later. He built and owned a saw mill on Beaver Creek in Abington in 1729. He was the moderator of a church meeting called 22 Aug 1749 to eject the pastor.226
