ca 1694 Anna married Capt. Thomas Gray, son of Dr. Edward Gray (ca 1629-30 Jun 1681) & Dorothy Lettice (-1728).287 Born ca 1669.238 Thomas died on 5 Nov 1721 in Little Compton, MA (now RI).238

21244. Rev. Ephraim Little. Born on 27 Sep 1676 in Marshfield, MA.128,121 Ephraim died on 24 Nov 1723; he was 47.121 Education: Harvard 1695.

Ephraim, pastor of the First Church of Plymouth 1699-1723.7

On 29 Nov 1698 when Ephraim was 22, he married Sarah Clark, daughter of William Clark (ca 1634-) & Sarah Wolcott (ca 1636-), in Plymouth, MA.395 Born on 19 Jun 1678 in Plymouth, MA.395 At the age of 31, Sarah was baptized on 14 Aug 1709. Sarah died in Plymouth, MA, on 23 Apr 1760; she was 81.

On 1 Oct 1699 when Mercy was 21, she married Job Otis (14439) , son of John Otis (6923) (ca 1621-16 Jan 1684) & Mary Jacob (5027) (ca 1632-aft 12 Jul 1699), in Little Compton, MA (now RI). Born on 20 Mar 1677 in Scituate, MA.121 Job died in 1758 in Scituate, MA.121 Buried in Union Street Cem., Scituate Centre.

From William A. Otis’s Memoir of the Otis Family:236
      Job resided at Scituate, half a mile west of the harbor. He conducted the business of ship-building and navigation at the north town landing, and continued it after 1700. In 1720 he bought the ‘farm, warehouse, etc., of William Ticknor for 400 pounds.’

Job succeed Will James as a shipbuilder at the ‘Will James dock,’ near the north town landing at the Harbor, as early as 1700.7

Otis236 says Job was born 20 Mar 1677.

21246. Capt. David Little Esq. Born on 18 Mar 1680/1 in Marshfield, MA.20,121 David died in Scituate, MA, on 9 Feb 1779; he was 98. Buried in Groveland Cem., North Scituate. Occupation: lawyer.

“David Little, Esq. was from Marshfield, 1700. He often laboured in publick affairs in the Twon, and practised as a lawyer. ... The family residence was north of ‘Hatchet rock,’ now [1831] the residence of Mr John Otis.”6

David built the ‘Two Stacks’ in 1700. This old Mansion on Mann Lot Road stood on an elevation that brought its two stacks of massive chimneys in full view of vessels coming into Scituate Harbor from the north. When the spire of the First Church, call the ‘Old Sloop,’ was in line with the ‘Two Stacks’ and a cirtain tree, vessels were on a safe course to avoid the dangerous ledges.7

On 2 Dec 1703 when David was 23, he married Elizabeth Southworth (11872) , daughter of William Southworth (3734) (ca 1659-25 Jun 1719) & Rebecca Pabodie (7085) (16 Oct 1660-3 Dec 1702), in Little Compton, MA (now RI).121,238 They were married b y Joseph Church, Justice. Born on 29 Sep 1686 in Little Compton, MA (now RI).121,238 Elizabeth died in Scituate, MA, on 10 Apr 1743; she was 56.121 Buried in Groveland Cem., North Scituate.

John “was a magistrate, a large land owner and had several slaves. ... He have to each of his six sons a farm as follows: To Fobes Little a farm at Little Compton , R.I. John Little received the farm in Columbia, Conn. To William Little was given a farm in Lebanon, Conn. Ephraim, Thomas, and Lemuel, remained in Littletown (Sea View) [in Marshfield] on the ancestral estate. To each of his daughters, Anna White, and Ruth Oakman, he gave, with other personal estate, a negro woman.”21

On 8 Apr 1708 when John was 26, he married Constant Fobes (18307) , daughter of Lieut. William Fobes (ca 1649-6 Nov 1712) & Martha Pabodie (7080) (24 Feb 1650/1-25 Jan 1712), in Little Compton, MA (now RI).238 They were married by Richard Billings, Justice. Born on 29 Jun 1686 in Little Compton, MA (now RI).300 Constant died in Marshfield, MA, on 26 Jun 1771; she was 84.300

On 23 Nov 1710 when Ruth was 24, she married Rev. John Avery, son of Robert Avery (ca Dec 1649-5 Oct 1722) & Elizabeth Lane, in Scituate, MA. Born on 12 Jun 1686 in Dedham, MA.130 John, the son of Robert & Elizabreth Auery, was borne the 4:12, 1686. John was baptized on 27 Apr 1686. John died in Truro, MA, on 23 Apr 1754; he was 67.314 The Rev. Mr. John AVERY the first Pastor of the Chh: of Christ in Truro dyed in Truro the twenty third day of April in ye year 1754. Recorded by Moses Paine town clerk. Buried in Old North Cemetery, Truro.359 Education: Harvard 1706.

John’s first wife was Ruth Little, daughter of Ephraim & Mary (Sturtevant) Little. His second wife was Ruth Knowles, daughter of Samuel & Mercy (Freeman) Knowles.

“Rev. John Avery died Apr. 23, 1754, in 69th yr. of his age and 44th year of his ministry, and first pastor ordained in Truro.”359
